DFI ultra d
3000+ venice (maybe ill get her to overclock on the phone to like 2.2ghz) that doesnt really even require priming does it? 🙂
either x800xl or 6600gt
2X512mb crucial value or ocz ram
not sure of the case and psu (any suggestions)
some random hdd deal ill find for her
hmm anythign i'm forgetting?

Don't get the DFI. It may take a little tweaking to get it to work properly. Get the Epox NF4 board. The X800XL is a much better card, but I doubt she needs soemnthing that powerful. Some cheaper crucial RAM would be perfect. For Case and PSu just get a Antec case w/ to keep costs down or something. I perfer Seagate for HDD.

which antec case

Maybe you should ask her though....

(Not trying to be a jerk, but I know some girls are into these and maybe if she doesn't know anything about components and is trusting you to find stuff for her, you should at least let her know it's an option)

Anything basically. Like a Sonata II or something.

true true ... to be quite honest i am just saying that because if she every needs any help... i am just familiar with regular cases way more than the shuttles 🙂 so i just thought it'd be easier to work in hehe... and if i ever get there to OC it for her... i know what i can do with regular mobos... but not the ones the sffs come w .... if any of that makes sense

don't o/c it, you are just asking for troubles and i really doubt it will impress her much, unless you can get a 3000venice to run @ 3.0GHz prime stable for 96hrs on air 😀 hell, that would even impress me 😀

I overclocked my sister's SFF shuttle for a while without any problems, but I understand.

I agree with bob4432 that in general overclocking is probably not a good plan for a computer that's not your own. If something goes wrong, whose fault is it going to be? (Even if a problem is totally unrelated to something you did).

I hope I'm not being too sexist here, but you might want to let her know it's an option.

They do look really sweet. One of my computer graphics professors has one sitting in his office and he carries it in to lecture sometimes if he needs to show a demo. I've thought about getting one before, but I just know that I can't live with only 1 or 2 5.25" bays.

thanks man 🙂

later on when dual cores are cheaper you can upgrade to one and you can add another stick of 1 gb ram thats why i went with one stick of 1 gig ram instead of 2 512mb of ram in dual channel i think it will be more future proof this way

she should be good for games for awhile with a 6800 gt i think the only game that will tax that card out would be the next unreal

gadzookie whered you get those prices .... lol no i'm not giving out any pics (how did i know that was going to come up 🙂)

all those i got from www.newegg.com if you look aroudn you can probably get it cheap another good site is www.zipzoomfly.com

there is one problem with my build though that sonata case is ugly 😛 but athestics arent really important when your trying to save money 😛 it is actually a very good solid case !

(make sure you do not plug in the fron blue led lights on the case you will thank me later !)

i think 2X512 would be better because they would run in dual channel as opposed to single channel (1X1gb) and also i kinda have a thing against corsair .... do you think if i buy 2 seperate sticks of crucial ram it would run in dual channel or do they have to come in the same set?

Dell. See if you can still get in on the "free LCD monitor" deal.

Also, this way you don't have to provide lifetime tech support. Dell will.

2 512 mb of ram in dual channel will run better then the 1 gig stick but im thinking about the future it will be easier to pop in another 1 gig stick then run them in dual channel then to get another 2 512 mb of ram for a total of 4 512mb of ram sticks in dual channel

and if she is not a hardcore gamer she wont notice the performance differnce at all i strongly suggest you stick with the one gig stick and later on upgrade to 2 gig and if you dont like crosair crucial is good too 🙂

as long as there the same brand they should be ok just rember th emodel number and later on buy another stick

939 boards arent really that more expensive then socket 754 boards :-( i just cant see anyone going socket 754 anymore on a new computer

3500+ with cheap Nforce 4 ultra board is around 25-30 bucks more. Not everyone upgrades you know. Not everyone overclocks either. Why spend more money on performance that is Nil.

Edit: Actually, if we go with your suggestion of a single 1GB stick, why spend more money on less performance?
