Wow quix, that was as good as or better than what I would have said if he had initially answered my original question, time to retire.

Edit;

In fact that was too good, where exactly do you live Quix ? 😉🙂
I live in Michigan.

I'm sorry, but this is just classic. Roger teachin Quix the proper method of providing automotive repair info.

Holy cripes BAMAVOO, next time PM Quix or I, we will be glad to help.

When I get back from lunch, I will give you the breakdown of prices.

I also had to have the lower ball joints replaced at a cost of $365, including alignment.

That's not really bad then, from your post I gathered that just the A/C was repaired.

They're not cheap but then again A/C work in general isn't cheap. $600 also includes an R134 conversion (so he should be replacing all the seals, expansion valve and drier). It actually doesn't sound that bad if that's the case.

He said it was a 98 it will already be R134 compliant.

The compressor from advance will run between $200 - $400 bucks depending on the engine. Considering the system will be recharged and you dont get your hands dirty $600 seems quite fair.

Alright guys. I already gave the go ahead for the work. This just fvcking sucks!
Just remember this system worked reliably for about six years, which is normal for a domestic a/c system. It only cost $100 dollars a year to keep you comfortable while driving down the road. 😉
