ok, another dumb question about cdrw's

what the hell is firmware? heh i know it sounds dumb for me to ask but i dont know what this is. i have an i/omagic 8x4x32 that rarely doesnt work at 8x only 6x and less and was wondering what all of this talk about firmware was and such.

firmware is basically a bios update for the chip inside your drive. it's a program, or softWARE, written by your HARDware manufacturer to update your drive. so, it's not really a software application you can "run", but it's for your hardware to make it run, so it's FIRMware.

my old Acer 2x2x4 cd-rw would make cd's that only i could read and no one else (it was really weird) so i updated the firmware and all of a sudden everyone can read my burns...so if you can find an update for the firmware for yours, i would suggest doing it (it should come with directions)
