our failure?
British Petroleum is now American Petroleum?
if a mid east oil company blew a hole like this of your coast would it be a NZ fuck up?
its a company, not a nation
I'm not talking about the company, I'm talking about that laughing stock you call regulation, and the complete lack of accountability in US courts. There is no justice over there - and these companies know it and take advantage of it.
BTW just heard on Marketplace morning report that BP and the government are re-evaluating their previous estimates of the magnitude of the spill - apparently it's much bigger than previously reported, and by far the biggest oil spill in history. I'm trying to find some corroborating details now.

At the time of the explosion, the Deepwater Horizon was on Mississippi Canyon Block 252, referred to as the Macondo Prospect, in the United States sector of the Gulf of Mexico, about 41 miles (66 km) off the Louisiana coast.

lolRussia.
It's not really that flammable - it takes serious effort to light crude. As for WTF you do if it does catch fire somehow...NFI because I don't see how you would put it out. Explosives I guess.
why would you want to put it out?
burning the crude while it's on the water's surface would be ideal for cleanup. only problem is it's not flammable enough for that.
that boston globe pic thread shows them burning some of it off, so I guess it is?
Ummm, guys, wouldnt that produce a shitload of black smoke?
