Oil Rankings?

You've got a lot to learn then.

1) Fats and oils are necessary for survival.
2) Fats and oils are one of the half dozen major things that make you feel full and eat less. Therefore a proper balance of oil can make you lose weight. This is the big reason the low fat fad in 80s and 90s left us with much fatter Americans.

Thus oil is very healthy. Too much of the wrong kind though will slightly increase your chance for heart problems. I had a list somewhere, don't know where. Just do a google search and I'm sure you'll get thousands of answers.

i know that, i am just saying that "healthy" is not exactly the best word to use.

So if you die if you don't have it, should we call it unhealthy?

Try Flax Seed Oil, I take a tblspoon of it every morn. It's gotta be one of the healthiest things.

Depends on the oil in question. Other than packing a lot of calories in a small space, stuff like flaxseed oil is a very "healthy" thing. On the other hand.....drippings from your new yord strip steak, congealed and spread on toast, are not very "healthy". 😉

I think the OP's intention was more geared towards oils used in cooking.

Stay away from saturated and trans-fats for the most part, and you're pretty much good to go AFAIK.

I thought this was going to be a thread about engine oil. 😛

Olive oil is healthier, I believe.

Sunflower Oil -
20% Monounsaturated fat
69% Polyunsaturated
11% Saturated

Olive Oil -
77% Monounsaturated fat
9% Polyunsaturated
14% Saturated

So they're basically opposite as far as their oil content.

I'm not entirely sure which type of fat is better for you, I think Mono > Poly > Saturated.. but don't hold me to that.
