Well, Friday night, the marching band at my school (of which I am part of) marched (both separately and together at one point) with the Ohio State University marching band. I'd heard that they were supposed to be one of the best marching bands in the country....but damn! It was incredible. Just thought I'd share...

Aftewards we housed a few of the baritone players, just so they had a place to sleep before moving on to Northwestern University this morning. Nice guys-don't know if any of em happen to be AT members (I have no reason to expect it, but you never know), if so, hey guys. :)

I live in Columbus... I think that the Ohio State Marching Band is absolutely awesome... nothing like it!
I've gone to several OSU football games simply to hear the band... I couldn't care less about football.
I'm not a member of the band, unfortunately, but I share in your enthusiasm.

Ya I go to Northwestern, and they played at halftime. They're pretty good, they played that "everybody needs a holiday" song.

I've always wondered which band is supposed to be the best...I was in marching band in high school, really enjoyed it, and I have a lot of friends here at the University of Michigan who are still doing it...and our band's amazing (too). Too bad there's nothing like BOA or DCI for college bands, that'd be awesome. Or is there, and I don't know?

I actually had tickets to the finals in Madison, WI....but ended up not going. Stupid long-ass drive. (Home's 30 minutes outside of Detroit......so a nice trek along lakes for me...) :)

Even as a U of M'er I will agree that OSU has an excellent marching band. (I don't know about the Best Damn Band in the Land though :p)

I mean...you can't beat the double script Ohio.

Ah yes, but people cannot understand the script Ohio without actually seeing it happen when at the 'Shoe. Simply amazing.

well, in any event, your team sucks, as they got owned 72-21 by BGSU

Never claimed to have a good football team. :p But BGSU is great this year, they are just outside of the top 25. I think they are 26 or something. Leading the nation in scoring. Not like a crappy team spanked us. :)

We nearly beat OSU a couple years back though...had it tied going into the 3rd quarter.

As a complete outsider to Ohio, I saw the OSU Marching Band perform all the way back in 1993. I was VERY impressed. :)

There's a reason that Stanford's band is banned from playing at several stadiums....good band, but they're the biggest bunch of smart asses you'll ever meet. Last season was the first season in many years that their band played in Eugene, Oregon, when their football team played the Ducks, as they were banned from there. They played on the steps of the court house of the OJ trial, and pretty well pissed off Notre Dame's catholic faithful with a "half-time performance in which a member conducted the band with a crucifix while dressed in a nun's habit and recited a script that said Irish culture consists mostly of "fighting and starving.""

An old story, but you get the idea

Edit: rec.arts.marching.band.college FAQ.

Maxim magazine once had a top 5 bands snippet. So. Cal (they did mention their playing of "Tusk" ad naseum), OSU, Stanford were on there, but I can't remember the other two (I think Grambling State and/or Florida State was on there...you ever seen those guys?)

They are leading the nation in scoring only because schools like OU let them score 72 points in a game.

Close only counts in horseshoes, handgrenades, and ICBMs. I mean, hey, the Cleveland Browns are inches away from being an undefeated football team, but they arent.

PS: Its nice to see the fellow OSU ATers show up.

Get a Life dude. How about suggesting a band you like instead of trying to look big ragging on other bands.

I think the Fightin Texas Aggie Band kicks ass.
