Ohio State Shuts Down Student Occupation after Arrests, Expulsion Threatened

Look like these special snowflakes are not special and hard-cored afterall. No safe zone for them. 😀

Too bad Mizz was not as firm as OSU.

I am all for 1st A and such but take over a building/being disruptive is not cool.

"If you refuse to leave, then you will be charged with a student code of conduct violation," Kasey said. "If you are here at 5:00 a.m. we will clear the building and you will be arrested." He added, "We will give you the opportunity to go to jail for your beliefs."

Kasey had little patience for it. "We told you, and all we can do is be honest with you. If you're still here at 5:00, our current philosophy is, we are going to take you out -- escort you out of the building and arrest you. You will be discharged from school also," he noted.

Confused, one of the students asked, "discharged as in...?"

"Expelled," Kasey answered flatly.

We demand complete, comprehensive and detailed access to the Ohio State budget and investments immediately

Hmm, these kids seem a bit out of touch. The last demand seems reasonable but its buried under the two ludicrous demands.

wanting to see how their tuition money is spent is ludicrous?

I dont understand the second point. Especially since they dont know the investments yet.

Of course it is, it's not their business. They pay tuition for education, not to see where the money goes. That's like your employer paying you your salary but demanding that you show them what you spend your money on. The proper response would be, "None of your business."

It's none of their business. The second point is a tree hugger/workmans rights related. They are both fundamentally principled but that doesn't mean its gonna happen. The third one with food, that's valid especially with how much more conscious we all are of our food.

hahahahha what a bunch of idiots.

hey we demand access to info that we have no idea what it means. the idiot who wrote that demand should be expelled for being a dumbass.

WTF?

We demand complete, comprehensive and detailed access to the Ohio State budget and investments immediately, as well as personnel to aid students in understanding this information.

Imagine that, the OP praising authoritarian behavior.

Did you read the whole OP? You didn't because if you did, you would be able to see this:

I am all for 1st A and such but take over a building/being disruptive is not cool.

Not giving up to the wannabe criminals =! authoritarian.

Pwned. Just like those "special snowflakes in the story. 😀 x 10000000000000000000.

The backlash towards ya is bizarre. Surely ya'd want to know where every bloody penny is going?

I mean. IF I was giving a school 30k a year I would want to see some accountability on how that money is spent. But I dont have student loan debt.

A lot of the posters in this thread seem to think of the students as employees. Thats not true. They are the client. Clients can absolutely ask to see a break down of how their money will be spent.

as others have said its none of the students business.
Incorrect. OSU is a state university, a part of Ohio's state government. Taxpayers have every right to see their governments' budgets, and it's a sure bet that a whole lot of OSU students pay taxes to Ohio. That said, OSU does have a budget posted on-line, though it is a summary. I imagine the kids are looking for all the gory details.

Oh so this is ohio being dumb, like some of our posters. 😎

Right to know is already in place. However if/when that happens as in one of these geniuses figures that out they can't force the school to educate them on it what it all means now does it?

Lol...by your definition every lunch counter sit in was done by special snowflakes and wannabe criminals. Authoritarian.

That's a poor analogy. Clients don't get to see company finances. You get an itemized list of charges when you pay a lawyer, but that's far from their operating model and internal accounting.

In this case, students clearly get an itemized list of charges...tuition by class, student life, health services, etc

If they want more detailed accounting info for a public institution, there's a very well worn path to obtain that. It's a called a FOIA request.

It is a public institution that receives vast amounts government money. I see no reason why their budget should be any different than any other public institution.

I would presume the state government determines what financial information the university needs to disclose, how often, and what communication medium. Additionally some of it may contain sensitive or confidential information like employee salary and benefit data. Even if I agreed with their need for this information, trying to extort it out by waging an occupation is the wrong way to do it.

Imagine that, the OP praising authoritarian behavior.
The sitters-in are also attempting to be authoritarian, only they are too freakin' stupid to be good at it.

hahahahha what a bunch of idiots.

WTF?
If I ran a university, I would certainly do my best to expel students who (A) are demanding access to what is already publicly available and (B) demanding that the University provide them with someone who isn't an idiot to help them find things about which to be outraged. Who wants to pay good money to attend a university known to have such stupid students?

Sometimes you have a client who is so bad that he prevents you from attracting better client. These are those clients.

It's ironic isn't it? They are freaking students at a college and between their noggins they can't get their shit together to figure it out. They have to do a sit in to demand someone else do it for them. That's so rich...

Yep. They not only can't find a worthy cause, they are admitting they are too stupid to even manage the poor cause they make.

We are outraged by your behavior, and we demand that you furnish us with someone who can explain to us why we are outraged.
