Ohio Officer Lets K-9 Maul Suspect Despite Trooper's Orders Not To Release The Dog

sad thing is even the dog didn't want to do it.

the office first tries to sic the dog and that doesn't work, dog is not interested.

officer then drags the animal to the victim, and the dog just runs away

officer calls the dog back to himself, and then finally scares the dog into attacking the victim

The entire time the commanding officer is ordering the exact opposite to happen.

Ohio, like most states, is a bastion of qualified immunity for police and politicians. The Ohio attorney general has totally rejected multiple attempts to do away with it there, even as recently as 2021.

As in most states, the police get away with pretty much anything short of murder (and sometimes even that) with no legal liability whatsoever. Sadly, I suspect that will be the case here. They will defend the piece of crap to the end rather than allowing a precedent to be established denying QI.

Personally, I think they should just chain the bastard to a post and sic the K9 on him for about 10 minutes to see how he likes it when it happens to him...

Fired

I thought the dog handler was fired already?

Doesn't matter. They'll defend him to the death just to prevent even the remote possibility that qualified immunity might be breached. If they let it get breached even once, even for this piece of crap, it makes it easier for it to happen to some "innocent" cop again in the future. At least, that is the mentality.

Oh there are a lot of Republican townships now banging down this guy's door to hire him. This is exactly who they are.

I wonder if a DeSantis will say he'll appoint this guy as head of the FBI if he wins.

I don't see that as a sad thing at all. It shows just how fucking psychopathic this piece of shit was being.

Its also not the first time we've seen stuff like that, where the animal knows. There's been riots where the police dogs attacked the cops because they were clearly the actual aggressors and violent psychos. And there's lots of protests where stray dogs protected the protestors against cops.

Yeah, guessing he'll get hired as a sheriff in a small town.

Also, one of the reasons the overwhelming majority of police departments makes it easy to avoid negative marks on a police officer's records. It is disgusting that in most police departments, disciplinary actions are dropped if the police officer resigns. The officer is then free to join a different police department.

And that video is disturbing. Yes. The perpetrator is 99.99% a criminal. But everyone deserves to be treated humanely. Especially when they've clearly given themselves up.

That was my exact sentiment in the other thread its posted. Dog had no idea who the perp was, has never been trained to attack someone like that.
Beau had an interesting observation on it: Troopers yelling DONT RELEASE THE DOG.
Yea.
Not first time.

@UNCjigga

I just thought that with half a dozen state troopers that he must have done something big. If it was just a missing mud flap, and failure to pull over, then at worst that just deserves a monetary fine.

Regardless of big or small, when someone gives themself up. You just don't do shit like this. Without further background on the fired K-9 handler, I can't label this racial yet. But I can say this, if it wasn't racial, then it was some LEO wanting to prove how macho he is in taking down a "perp".

If he was the commanding officer, why the hell did he not take command?
Actually yell the command instead of speaking a quiet and calm volume that no one would hear?
Then when disobeyed, why not move forward and assert himself?

Weak leaders make for bad outcomes. Especially with that psychopath holding the dog. Anyone present could have stopped that.

I assumed he was speaking over the radio.

Right or wrong this is where the drivers mindset was. He called 911 fearing for his life.

"Audio recordings of 911 calls show Rose told emergency dispatchers that the officers pursuing him were “trying to kill” him and he didn’t feel safe pulling over. He also said he was confused about why the officers were trying to stop him and why they had their guns drawn after he briefly stopped the truck before driving away."

He was yelling "do not release the dog". Yelling! Should he have stood his ground?
Edit: Should the lead state popo have stood his ground.

Good they can have him & pay whatever settlement this guy will certainly cause plus pay the increased insurance he will certainly cause.

And as it turns out, the man was not wrong.
There is a history in the US of using dogs against people of color.
Somethings never change unfortunately.

The whole situation after the man stopped and got out of his truck is confusing as hell. You have a set of officers telling him to get down on the ground and another officer telling the man to come over to him. Despite the confusion caused by the officers at the scene, it was clear the man was not a threat to any of the officers at any point in the video. I am disgusted by what happened.

This type of shit is not uncommon. Cops will intentionally start yelling different commands so they can then claim the person didn't comply. I've seen cops joking about that, like a psycho version of Super Troopers.

This is the crap certain people want to drag us back to!

But comply or die!

Never, ever assume that. It's a dangerous thing to assume, and leads to the shit we see in America. Many of America's problems are rooted in the societal presumption that authority is self-evident and purposeful. It is everywhere if you are looking for it, and not well concealed.
