So im thinking about upgrading my cpu. I use my computer to do sound design and multitasking is important. The question is would it be better to have the 2x1mb of cache or the jump from 2x2.2ghz to 2x2.4ghz

Right now I am crushing my 3700 sd. It seems when I'm trying to do pitch shifting in real time or running large videos along with my projects it really crawls. It has 1mb of cache so I'm kind of leary about going for more cache. I would love to just o/c the system and get the .2ghz but I really need stability above all else.

Thanks guys.

Between those two I would get the 4400. It can easily run at 2.4, the same as the 4600, but has more cache. I would imagine both will overclock about the same, but the 4400 with more cache will be a better buy. Also the 4400 is a few bucks cheaper.

Don't dismiss the X2 3800, take a peek at these benches: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/229/3/

Considering most all the X2's do 2.5-2.9, the $152 3800 offers mucho bang for buck. I've seen X2 4400's that will only do 2.5 and 3800's that do 2.9. It's all luck of the draw....
