I ordered my 6800GT from best buy on the 16th and it's apparently getting shipped out tomorrow and while I was on the phone with the guy I decided to check on the 299.99 dollar issue they had for you guys. He spent a good deal of time and saw the numerous orders placed on the 299.99 missprice and said that they were all cancelled and bestbuy wouldn't be honoring the deal. Just updating you guys, sorry to those of you who got screwed.

But seriously, do you really expect them to honor something they can't? BestBuy isn't authorized to sell below the price given to them by the manufacturer and so it's impossible for them to honor it. It just seems like people wanting to get something for nothing, nevermind this is the BFG version that comes OC'd out of the box with better cooling. Again sorry guys but that's the news I got.

lol.. now that's FUD at its best - so are they doing something 'unauthorized' everytime they advertise a 'sale' where the item is below msrp? how do they do that?

That is authorized through the manufacturer in most cases there is a limit that they can't pass.

i guess you never worked in retail then....

manufacturs do not dictate sale prices, while there are certainly exceptions (sometimes manufactuers will offer a 'coop' where the manufacturers pay or offset advertising costs of the retailer in order to advertise a specific product), retailers are free to sell the products for whatever they choose. retailers don't "work" for the suppliers, they follow their own business models dictated by profitability.

BS . . . The blame lies squarely on Beast Buy - the 2nd Worst retailer (after Gateway). :p

Beast Buy takes delight in screwing their customers. Will you NEVER learn? They are good for ONE thing only - PM'ing. :p

i'm glad i didn't bite :)

And what if you did bite? Do you think you would be out the 299.00? Do you think they would keep your money? What did anyone lose here? Everyone lost the opportunity to take advantage of a Best Buy misprice and they are bitchy about it demanding that best buy honor it. Talk about scavengers. Those guys make buzzards look like vegitarians.

No kidding.

cain: What did you do in retail that gave you this information? Please don't say cashier lol.

The guy on the phone said it irritated the sales reps because everyone wanting to get the ridiculous deal calls them and bitches at them when they have no control over what the suits say.

jd103: maybe you shouldn't be trying to buy top of the line then? or damn close to it as the GT is. as many people are noticing, there is basically no mid range market for GFX cards anymore.

A better question is what did you do in retail that gives you the final say-so?

Another $106 means very little to me so no BFD if my order gets canceled ;) However, Their system still shows my order and everything looks fine, and the estimated arrival date for the card to be shipped has consistantly stated July 1-7, so I will put very little faith in the info provided here. Particularly given both statements are heresay from my perspective, while at least the BB web site is something tangible. No offense to the OP, it's the CS you spoke with I believe to be the potential source of misinformation here.

I'll believe the $299.99 deal isn't being honored when BB tells me it won't, and that your card ships tomorrow when you have a tracking# on it.

i was a sales mgr and dealt with ford/lm & mazda (tho in their co-op ads i was not restricted in what price i advertised), now i run my own business.

and i have to agree with keys, it was a simple error in pricing, and people are griping because they won't be allowed to exploit this mistake. they are under no obligation to honor it. i believe if you search the BB site (as well as other online retailers) you'll find a disclaimer posted on their website stating erroneous prices will not be honored and that they are under no obligation to do so...

oh ok cool.
Also punisher why don't you call them yourself and get the info? The site info you receive is automated while these people have access to infinitely more resources than you do through the site. Hey though if your order goes through awesome.

That's a good suggestion, I want my card ASAP so if price is indeed not being honored I want to get it re-pre-ordered pronto. I will choose in-store pick-up this time too, unless someone knows this to be a bad idea for some reason. I must say though that if after 10 days they can't get the data available to the CS rep you spoke with on the web servers that's truly some serious lag ;)

Best Buy was slapped with a multi-million dollar fine about 10 years ago for false advertising. They would advertise a price, have 1 item in stock and then not honor the price. The scam they were running was to just get people into their stores and not into their competitors.

So this does not surprise me in the least as BB has a history of doing this. You may not think it is a big deal but how many people went ahead and bought the card and didnt from a competitor? And how many do you want to bet will just stay with the order and get the card at 400 bucks?

Well you have to consider that it may be on preorder again because of the sheer number of requests. He told me that they had 17 cards coming in on this shipment. I was the third in line for the real price placements so he said I would get a card. After the 17th order or whatever people will be put on the next shipment, as for the 299 he said all of those were cancelled on his check, I don't think he was lying either becaues it took him quite a bit of time to find out this info. er so basically what I mean is that it could have been shown "in stock" for literally a minute or a few hours then taken back down to preorder because of the sheer number of people dogpiling onto the thing.

One Question. if BB is cancelling the order's why wait so long to do it. Why not get it over and done with so we can move on

Just got off the phone and my $317.99 BFG 6800GT is on order with an expected ship date of July 1st :) He said if I would like to change it to in-store pick-up I'll have to call back on the 1st which is the release date and change it then, at that point they just give me one off the shelf and cancel my other order presuming it didn't ship already since stuff sometimes ships a day early. He said he couldn't change it to in-store pick-up now because it had passed that point in processing, whatever that implies.

Anywho, everything from the first post was just refuted by a BB CS rep and there's no way that any BFG 6800GT ordered from BB is shipping tomorrow according to him. Furthermore, he stated that the info available to them is only at the most 15 minutes difference from what you can see on-line.

BTW, I'm thinking all the canceled orders the CS rep you spoke with saw in the system were the orders cancelled because people had ordered more than one card. I've read posts on another maessage board where the people said they had all but one of their orders cancelled, but that they still had the one showing up as in-process.

lol bes buy is so dumb. I got 3 different things from 3 different people. I wouldn't be surprised if both of us were screwed. One lady told me that I wouldn't get it till the 1st, two others told me it;d be shipped tomorrow but they don't put it on the site as to not excite the buyers and expect it sooner. Furthermore they said no stores would have it for in store pickup. The guy I talked to said the ETA was updated every 3 hours with leeway(sp) towards the actual date as I said, to no excite buyers. Your guy says every 15 minutes. Basically, your BB CS rep refuted mine... It really means nothing now I guess since both of them are contradicting each other

i guess you just don't get it. :p

Best Buy has a pattern- a habit - of mispricing. They make us "buzzards" looks like parakeets. :p

And i guess i'd just loose time and energy and get frustrated whenever i try to deal with a truly crap company like Beast Buy or Gateway - who really doesn't give a crap about its customers.

Not necessarily, at least where the canceled orders are concerned. I edited in what I believe the rep was looking at when he tolod you a bunch of canceled orders showed up. The shipping date is another matter, but as my cs rep and the web site are in synch I'd tend to believe that over a rep's spoken word that everything else contradicts ;)
