I can think of a few places where the first person would have been fired for doing something like that.

"Wait, you pissed away how much time making it look like that? The hell you think this is, NASA? Stop wasting my time and money! I don't care if it will save days of labor a year from now when we have to troubleshoot it. Think short term! Someone else can worry about long term problems."
