Oh wow, I thought I sent back my broken Seagate hard drive

Yeah, wow, I was going through my closet today, and I found my Seagate 300GB Hard Drive in the Seagate RMA Box I thought I sent back to Seagate six months ago. I did that $25 advance replacement service where they send you the new drive first, then you ship the broken drive back. Well I did part one but I guess never did part two.

I looked into it a bit, turns out they charge you for the drive if they dont recieve the drive after a month, and its been 5-6. Since it was totally my fault, I dont mind being charged for the drive, but what should I do with it? Should I send it back anyways? Will I have problems RMAing with Seagate in the future (I actually ordered a 320GB drive yesterday)? I mean, I cant be the first person who hasnt sent back their drive... I cant believe I screwed up something so simple, this was my first RMA too...

Shouldn't the new drive have a different serial # and all, and they must have charged you which means you equivelently bought the drive...

If I were you, I would send them an email and explain exactly what you explained here and ask them about your concern. You haven't done anything wrong. It has been an honest mistake.

I agree. I think the best answer you could get for this question is to ask Seagate themselves, through e-mail or phone. I guess they might not be available in the middle of the holidays, though...

A new drive would cost more than $25. It seemed to me that several years ago, that Maxtor wanted $200 to advance RMA.

I don't believe you get a new drive. I believe it is a refurb.

You pay $25 for advanced RMA when they receive the return drive they credit you back the $25. If you don't they charge you the remaining cost of the drive AKA more than $25 bucks.

Yeah Seagate sends you a refurbished drive. The option to advance is optional, you can send the broken drive first, but for $25 they pay 2day shipping one way and pay for the box/materials/shipment back to them. I thought it was more convenient, but yeah, I'll get in contact with Seagate to see if they still want the drive (I doubt they'll charge me back if they do, but I just dont want to have problems RMA drives in the future).
