I'll be going with the $25 since I don't have any records. Sucks that I don't have any either because I know I'm eligible for more than the $25. Oh well.

EDIT: Let's see, Dublin in 2004, Dublin in 2005, Austria in 2006. Sweden in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001.
Damn this sucks.

Can't you look in your passport for the entry/exit stamps? That will tell you the dates you have been out of the US

I don't have any bank records dating that far back. I usually shred them after 6 months.

interesting I get hit with this for my LD service. I don't mind as for 4.6 cents per min anytime to Japan by direct dial is great in my book even for the 3-4 cents in monthly foreign fees.

$25 back would further sweeten the deal.

Yes, you don't know what their per day estimated expenditures are. And then they only refund 1% of that.

But... Let's say they estimate $50/day (which is a reasonably low guess considering food, lodging, transportation), they might estimate your costs at 200 x $50 = $10,000. 1% of that is $100. So, it might be worth a try.

Got mine the other day. Going to see how much I can get based on my Scotland trip six years ago.

Also check your skypeout minutes purchases.

I believe there would have been a foreign transaction fee since the company is in UK.

Finally, sheesh. I actually messaged Citibank about it because I noticed a % of my money spent in Sweden had been withdrawn. Citibank said it is just part of their policy. I threatened to take my business elsewhere, but they didn't budge. I don't get notices in the mail, and I'm still kinda hesitant to put that much information into the claim portion of this site. Anybody else have some suggestions?

Haha! Usually it sucks to be a statistical outlier, but some days...

I grew up in Ecuador, and came to the US in mid-2000.
I took a 6-month trip through Europe, Madagascar, and Ecuador in 2005-2006.
I took a 3-month trip through SE Asia in 2006-2007.

I can prove all of this:)

I normally use my AMEX for foreign purchases, but I did use my debit card once, and got the claim form.

I haven't gotten one but I encourage everyone to at least try to get the $25 just so it has an impact on this situation. I can only hope that it teaches them a lesson and I know the only way to do that is to attack their bank accounts.

The proof in your medical record is you have malaria from Madagascar and herpes from SE asia?

Then you only get 1% of the total, so at most a dollar.

No, then he does the "$25 easy refund", and gets 25%. Great deal indeed.

crap, nevermind, AMEX isn't included

AMEX isn't included because they are a reputable company....or so it seems.

I'm taking the $25. I don't know when or if it will ever come, but that pretty much covers any conversion difference anyway (I only used an ATM once while abroad).

He can just do the $25 option. Did you miss that option? It's a pretty slick deal if you don't go abroad much.

I got 3 of these forms. But then I buy a lot of things from the UK, and Australia (My Mapping Software/Art Magazine comes from the UK, and my art books from Australia)

The settlement value is fixed, so it doesn't matter how many people file a claim.

If less people file, the people who use option 3 will get a higher percent of their claim, and if more people file, the people with option 2 & 3 will get less (but not less then $25).

I got mine. I'm going with the $25.00. May take awhile.

When will I get my refund?

Refunds will be paid after the Court finally approves the settlement, and approves any award of attorneys' fees, awards to the class representatives, and allocation of the settlement fund among Settlement Damages Class members, and any appeals related to that approval are resolved. It is possible that this could take several months, or, if appeals are filed, several years. You may want to check this website from time to time for updates.

I got my letter in the mail today, just finished filing the online claim form. Quick and easy, all I had to do was enter the "Refund ID" the district court people (or whoever is handling this) assigned me, and I did the $25 option. The court apparently already had my personal info, so that was automatically filled in.

I kind of remember the transaction that probably led to this. It was a shoe eTailer based in Canada. I remember checking my CC statement closely after noticing the charge didn't quite jive, and seeing a mystery foreign currency exchange fee on the eBill. I didn't remember any mention of it when I bought the stuff.

Never really expected this settlement in any case .

So, did this go out to all card holders? Or just those who incurred a foreign currency exchange fee?

I got one, but I don't recall making any overseas transactions...

Thanks mucho for this. I did a 'Round The World' trip in 2005. I'm wondering if getting cash from an ATM couts as well.

Heck 1% is better than nothing, I guess. I agree that those guys are not getting enough of a penalty to deter them from doing it again. They see this as a moneymaking proposition and will continue to do whatever they like as long as it makes money and therefore pleases Wall Street.

They see the public as patsies and quite frankly, that's what we are when we allow them to get off so lightly.
