Ok please hear me out for a minute. Back when the 9700Pro was released, Tom's Hardware Guide referred to it as a "Pretender to the Throne" as they thought the NV30 would soon be released and would dominate it. This, however, never happened.

This time they could have used that as an article title though.

I don't think there's much stopping nVidia from releasing a higher clocked GTX w/ 512mb of memory that would give them back the performance crown.

Thoughts? 😀

My thoughts are that there's not much left to speculate. ATi still isn't on top and still has no cards available. R520 will hopefully be a short-lived bad memory and be quickly replaced by a 24/32 pp R580 that shall be the true successor to the throne. Think of R520 sort of like Pope Benedict - sure he's pope but everyone knows he's just an interim pope and they want him to croak quickly so he can be replaced by a long-term one. Ok maybe I'm stretching a bit here but I'm bored of studying 😛

first reviews show that the card is on par if not sub par to nvidia 7800gtx, it comes 6 month late and with a price that by no means can compete with the nvidia antagonist if you also take into considerations the complete failure that represents ati crossfire its obvious that ati is in trouble.

and before nobody flames me i have an ati radeon 9700pro and have usually felt more on the ati side than on nvidia but i really think nvidia has given ati a great kick in the ass this time.

I don't think it will be long. I heard they went into production weeks ago. I think X1800XT might be king for a day, that would be so awesome. 😀

ExtremeTech's benchmarks showed it beating the 7800GTX in some things, especially with high AA/AF.

No man it's over. The R400/500/520 discussion was unlike anything I've ever seen. It was just that one chip. I don't know why they hyped it so much. We know what's in the Xbox 360, and that's just gonna filter down in like a year. Breathe easy for a year. 😉
