OH Snap!

"Oh, Snap! is an expression of disbelief. It was popularised by Biz Markie. It has also entered use as acknowledgement of a dis by third parties, to heighten the feeling of disrespect and insult a dis causes, generally with the intention of starting a fight. This use is especially popular with African-American urban teenagers. 'Oh snap' is a very dynamic word. Changes in intonation can render different meanings. For example, 'Oh Snap!' has been known to be used as a form of salutation. This usage is prevalent in the South Miami area. It may also be used as an expression of shock or amazement. In eastern Pennsylvania (Reading) it is emphasized by displaying a dislocation of a double jointed thumb, or a "snap" of the thumb joint."

I understand the context of when it is used and why people use it. . .but that's not what I mean. I mean why those particular words? Like I know when people used to say don't "dis" me it was short for the word "disrespect" so it kinda made sense. But "Oh Snap" . . .what in the hell does that mean. . .it doesn't even make sense! It's like what the hell did somebody just smack you upside the head with a shovel and give you a concussion and that's the first words that came to mind?! I know it can be used to express somebody getting "owned" as they say. . .and even "owned" (or pwnt as the kiddies like to put it) makes some sense. But Oh Snap!? That's just. . .stupid!
