Oh Snap, Pope calls out Trump with dogwhistle

Amid controversy over President Trump’s immigration executive order barring travel to the United States from seven Muslim-majority countries, Pope Francis on Wednesday echoed his previous comments about building bridges of understanding instead of walls, according to the Associated Press.

He made the comments during a weekly address Wednesday that coincided with the “International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking” and the feast day of Sudanese immigrant Saint Josephine Margaret Bakhita.

“In the social and civil context as well, I appeal not to create walls, but to build bridges,” he said, according to the AP. “To not respond to evil with evil. To defeat evil with good, the offense with forgiveness. A Christian would never say ‘you will pay for that.’ Never.

“That is not a Christian gesture,” he continued. “An offense you overcome with forgiveness. To live in peace with everyone.”

Credit to the man. Staying on message and calling a spade a spade in the context of his belief system. Keeping it real for J-dog.

I've hated Catholicism my whole life because it embodies everything I hate about organized religion, but this Pope has been fucking awesome.

If he could just seriously root out all the child molesters I might even consider removing the church from my shit list.

This pope showed long ago that he's more into politics than religion, so I don't really give a crap what he says anymore.

Wait a minute. You've been quite demonstrative in your support of Trump's proposal to remove restrictions for political involvement by churches here in the U.S., and you then criticize someone for doing exactly what you espouse?

Amazing the hypocrisy you choose to embrace.

Not to mention his knowledge of what Catholicism says pales in comparison to yours, so what does he really bring to the table?

He never said he wasn't allowed to say it, he said he didn't care what he had to say. There is a huge difference. Pope can say it all he wants... it doesn't mean people have to listen.

I've been there several times. You just walk/drive in, while there may be a wall somewhere surrounding parts of St. Peter's cathedral, the streets themselves just move through Rome into the Vatican area. There is no sense or indication of moving from Rome into the Vatican.

At night the courtyard in front of his residence is full of people wandering around.

I have? That's news to me. Please link to where I've ever been "quite demonstrative" in support of removing restrictions for political involvement on churches.

Further, I haven't said he doesn't have a right to say whatever he wants. I said I don't give a crap what he says. Is that difference too difficult for you to understand?

Jumping right into lies and misrepresentations this morning? Normally you ease into that through the day 😉

You're the one who said the Pope was wrong when he said the degradation of the earth through climate change was a sin, not me.

I have to say you've been racking up these 'I got caught in an obvious lie but can't admit it' things at a pretty rapid pace these days. It's incredibly funny.

You talking about yourself again? Start with lies and then argue against them?

So because he follows Catholic values that you warp to fit your ideology (if you're Catholic) or just don't believe , he's political lol. Funny.

Agree bigly!

Studies show that priest child molesters are no more prevalent than they are in the general population. The difference in the amount of abuse cases were they were shielded, but the amount of molesters was no different than if you looked at your family tree.

The Pope is probably one of the few religious leaders uniquely qualified to be involved in "politics". He also happens to be a head of state (the Holy See). Separation of Church and State does not apply to the Pope.

I believe that the psychic forces of reaction formation have forever made priesthood a luminous flame for moths with pedophilic impulses, but they can sure do a better job of responding to it when it is known or suspected to happen.
