Oh right, this is why baseball rucks

This just in: Baseball is boring as fuck.

it's a figure of speech. iam not saying fucking is boring. just ask your mom, bro

Fortunately, no one needs to watch said sport

We have the NHL for good reason: it's a far superior sport.

spending does not guarantee wins.

But it sure as shit helps.

I've been so consumed with football and the strategy it takes to build a good team and keep it, due to the salary cap. My Seahawks are a great example. Very young core that they have to work to keep. But at least they have the opportunity to keep it.. low market teams in baseball get 1-2 years to win and then are sold for scrap.

Rays fan here. Arguably the best managed team in baseball. If we had the money... dear lord we'd be unstoppable. It makes me sick to my stomach to know that this is probably our last year with David Price. A top 5 pitcher, going into his prime and we are gonna have to just let him go because we can't afford him.

no the insane amount he makes does not make baseball suck (though good for him!).

what makes baseball suck is 4 hour games, the fact they have 4-5 games a week.

I don't care about baseball until the playoffs. since most times the cubs aren't in it i don't care at all.

Year - Champion - Payroll Spend Rank - Payroll Delta from #1

2012 Giants 8 ~$80M
2011 Cards 11 ~$96M
2010 Giants 10 ~$110M
2009 Yanks 1 $0
2008 Phillies 12 ~$111M
2007 Red Sox 2 ~47M
2006 Cards 11 ~106M
2005 White Sox 13 ~130M
2004 Red Sox 2 ~57M
2003 Marlins 25 ~$103M

Top 2 Spenders every year are Yanks and Red Sox (though Mets took #2 in 2003). Just from this small sample, looks like you get slightly better value by spending a little higher than the median.

You've been 'consumed' by it? What kind of weirdo are you?

The problem is the Astros/Marlins/etc. type, not the Yankees/Red Sox/Dodgers types.

Yea there are teams that have money but why spend it when you can throw some AAA players on the field and collect money from the other over spent teams.

yeah i'm not a huge fan of baseball just because of the long mundane season. the playoffs are fun to watch though if you have a team to route for. i listen to a lot of sports radio and since the nats have been doing well recently i've been more into it. this year they should be solid.

Yea the Nats are how it should work, right? Shitty team gets better through the draft. Problem is most end up walking in free agency because why wouldn't they for the bidding that takes place

It's been proven to be statistically significant that payroll will give a team an improved chance of making the playoffs. After that, the sample sizes are so small that it's a coin toss.

What I'd like to see is a cap floor imposed at a minimum of X million. Teams like the Astros shouldn't be allowed into the league only spending that little, it's complete BS and waters down the league with shitty players.

Agree with that good by to the pirates and don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Totally agree that this is the bigger problem.
