OH, P4 2.5ghz is only 400mhz fsb

I was planning on going with the p4 2.5ghz for my new comp because of it's extreme overclockablilty. I just realized tho that it only has 400mhz fsb. Price not a concern, would the 2.5ghz still be the best way to go over the 2.26 with 533mhz fsb? And what exactly does the FSB do or affect?

Ive got a good overclocking MoBo, P4T533-C.

If you plan to start at 133 and go up from there (ie you're using DDR), get the 2.26, 2.4B, or 2.53 P4.

If you're using RDRAM, you want to start at 100 and go up from there.

Hi,

The FSB or front side bus is an important part of the computer because it is the tube or cable where the information travels from the cpu to other components and vice-versa. For example think of the front side bus as a pipe that you have in your house. The bigger the pipe the more stuff you can send at a time from one side of the pipe to the other. This is called bandwith, the size of the pipe. The bigger the pipe/bandwith, the better. That's why the P4 is better in overclocking than the Athlon processor.

I hope this helps!🙂

OK, so it would be better to sacrifice a little more overclockability with only 400fsb(2.5ghz)
and go with
a still great overclocker with 533fsb (2.26ghz)?

I'll be using RDRAM no matter what.
tnx

the 2.26 isn't guaranteed to be the new stepping.

if you're doing things that don't hit the FSB much get the 2.5 and hope it gets to 133. thats a pretty large overclock.
the 2.66 going to up 150 FSB is a 3.0, but it will own in anything that hits the bus a lot more.

How many programs will hit the bus more? This computer, as you probably guessed, is for gaming. I just want to know is it really worth it having the larger FSB like the 2.26, sacrificing some clock speed.
