The rest of the world is getting pretty good at basketball.
The only sport we really OWN is American Football.
Even baseball (America's pastime) has started to be dominated by
players of other countries... Notice how Major League Baseball players
don't play in the Olympics? I wonder if it's more of an avoidance from being
embarrased than a schedule conflict

I am not a baseball fan, but according to my friend who is a big fan, the reason MLB players don't play in olympic is summer olympic are always played during baseball season.
For NBA, they should call it WBA= World Basketball Association..

I was going to post this last night, but forgot. I'm 100% sure that USA will win the rest of their games, but this is a great wake up call. People have have foretelling this for the past few weeks, but everyone thought the Yugo's would beat USA.
I sincerely hope that this is a humbling experience for all cocky NBA players (although if the US did send their best, there would have been no contest,...Shaq, Kobe, McGrady, Duncan, etc ).

).I remember when they first fielded the dream team. They always said that eventually it wouldn't be comprised of the USA's best and that the other country's teams would eventually close the gap due to the increasing number of foreign players with skills good enough for the NBA. Back then they estimated about 10 years or so and this is right in line with predictions.
Damn straight. That game was just too pathetic. That USA team shoulda easily dimantled Argentina. Their mentality and arrogance got the best of them. And I am not a fan anymore of a single player on that USA team after that STUPID and LAZY performance. That was sad and embarrassing.

this is really no big deal at all. the only true dream team was the first, all others have been steadily declining in talent, skill, desire. heck, the best players dont even play anymore. wheres kobe? shaq? jason kidd? garnet? malone? etc. the team that lost was prolly an all nba 4th team calibur.
i laugh at loud, lazy team usa. but at least these guys decided to show up, unlike the top tier stars.

these guys are the guys that wanted to play, and well a lot of them are fairly one dimensional players (i.e. ben wallace=no offense, half the shooting guards only slash, none of the supposed "centers" antonio davis is NOT a center btw, can shoot)

sports illustrated and some of you are dumb enough to say stuff like, "it's not the NBA that's getting worse, it's just that the world is catching up and getting better." pftttt. you put in T-mac, kobe, shaq, tim, and garnett and the US will win by at least a 50 point margin....and that's with them sitting out for the entire 4th quarter or whatever. all the players they have on the '02 dream team are mostly freaken bench players. of course the rest of the world are gonna do better. freaken nick collison is their alternate. i mean come on, get half a brain.
You guys don't seem to realize that Yugoslavia is really good at basketball and always has been. The only reason they haven't been doing all that great throughout the 90's is because of polictical reasons (the breakup of the country, players splitting up) ... they used to be really good at soccer too.
This thread actually kind of borders on the other threads that are happening in ATOT .. the "why does everyone hate the US" threads .. and you can make some pretty interesting observation in this one, some people sport the attitude that the rest of the world hates, and others speak with some level of understanding, we need to see more of the latter.
