Yup it looks like #1 in the first pic. A-Case Tantalum.
well I got all the blocks and the loop installed and running, after another hour or two I'll wire it up, and we will see. (I'm thinking positive thoughts.)

It is not a tantalum, just a ceramic. Capacitors have a hard time with rapid temperature changes, they tend to short or open (usually open, but can do either). The flux should not hurt anything, just makes it look bad, it is non conductive.

Thanks for your pessimism magomago...I don't plan on selling the card any time soon...
I am extremely proud to report that it is all systems go! (so far, still running tests...)
It fired right up!

Bill-I would do that, but since things are working as they are I'll just leave it alone, besides considering how easily it popped off in the first place I would be very leary of scrubbing it with anything...
