Oh no, I need MORE root canal

I had visit 4 of my 5-part root canal today (putting the post & temp crown in). The dentist says I'm going to need to have another tooth done.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I had a really bad abcess that rotted the first tooth, and evidently it's done in the tooth next to it also.

Time to try another avatar :frown: .

step 4 of 5?

There are 4 steps total.

1. go in and have them numb you and start taking the roots out. They pack it and tell you to come back later

2. Go back in for more shots. They finish filling the roots and put the post in

3. Go in for permanent crown fitting and they give you a temp crown

4. Get permanent crown put on

I just had 2 root canals done and my next apt is step 4. I have to temp crowns and they suck.

how did you end up having to have a root canal in the first place? a blow out cavity or what?

Hmm interesting.. my husband just had root canal and it was only a two step process. He was there for about an hour for the procedure, and then had to come back 2 weeks later for a check up.

depends on the tooth having a root canal. the more roots the longer the process.
front teeth have one root and then as you go back there are up to three roots on a tooth.

In my case it was step one, begin removing the rotted infection under and around the roots. Step two, make sure it was gone and then continue on with the other, more common steps.

No, I don't have dental insurance. (They don't make an icon to express what I want here)

My dentist is cool and is NOT doing this unnecessarily. I forget if I posted the whole thing, but I was getting headaches and I had a wierd bump on my neck, and my dr. was afraid it was lymph cancer and did MRI, CAT scans, and a biopsy (which did NOT come back okay). Then my tooth started hurting, I went to the dentist, he discovered a huge infection, and with the first part of the root canal, I was fine.

Except for the empty wallet.

That sucks man.
I had one last year and still need one more.
The cost of it convinced me to upgrade my dental insurance at work this year from the plan that pays 50% of restorative work to 80%.
I'm really glad I did since we just found out our 9 year old son needs $1500 worth of work.:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q
I will have already saved more than the extra insurance cost for the year by next week.

both of my teeth have 4 roots and the longest roots on history. All I had were small cavities but since my roots were so close to the surface, I had to get root canals.

I think the amount of steps required just depends on the amount of time your dentist has.
