My point was that Bush was forced to act before the end of his term due to a U.N. Mandate.
Regardless of Bush's reasons or motivations, he is still the one who did so. Therefore, the entire UN-mandate angle is irrelevant when the topic of this thread is Joe Biden giving credit for those actions to Obama.

And once the level of violence came down, Iraq could start to rebuild.

As for the Iraqi withdrawal date we are committed to, its not like its something GWB gets credit for, but when GWB made such botches of his twin quagmires, it was the international community acting through the UN that refused an extension of the US occupation of Iraq. So the USA had to set a schedule to leave.

But food for thought, Obama has done a fairly decent job of making sure Iraq does not go off the tracks, but if Cheney were still in office, I wonder if he would be engineering some sort of monkey business in Iraq to extend the US occupation.

Bolded for truth...

Extend it, or involve Iran... The neocons not being at the helm anymore is a good thing, and I feel the strides we've made in Iraq (after the first 5 years of getting it wrong) weren't made because of Bush's "leadership" - heh, sorry, that always makes me laugh - but in spite of Cheney/Bush.
AQ killing a Sunni tribal elder and failing to respect Islamic custom afterwords arguably had the biggest effect on the insurgency, something that had nothing to do with Bush.

Our talent in the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines is where the real credit should go, for both operating under the incompetent and myopic Cheney admin, and for taking advantage of the rift that developed between AQ and the Iraqi insurgency - not to Bush or Obama.
