Damn, g/f IM'ed me about 3 minutes into my 2nd round on one server. But before I lost my sound, and quit out, on de_prodigy, was probably 20-30 feet away from one guy, started aimed at his chest, started blasting away with the Glock, and by the 3rd round the kickback had me shooting at his head, so he was dead and I was 100% health:)

i think everyone should know that loading counter-strike through the console is soo much better...

what you do is load counter-strike, then at that first screen just hit console, then it will take you to the console. do join a server you just type connect 23232.23.223.23 <--server ip

i have all the servers i like in a notepad file with connect and their ips right after so i can just copy and paste and go to console and join real fast

did i mention the pluses of the console?: if you get IMed or go out of cs, you can lose your sound, however if you do just hit esc while playing then hit resume, and boom bam your sound is back without quitting cs!!

That doesn't work for everyone... but fortunately they supposedly fixed that bug in the 1.6 update

Yeah, I'd have to disconnect from the server I'm on, exit all the way out to the main menu, and then rejoin to get my sound back :( I've tried the other ways with no luck. THAT would be a very nice thing for them to fix :)

There was a point in my life, two years ago, where at college i was the best CS player there was. I won all the tourney's etc. . .but over time, i noticed i had no friends, no women, no life, and i was very iritable, as well always pissed. I could never figure out why until i one day stopped playing. Since then i have become good friends with people, as well women, and not to mention i started working out and becomming normal.

The game can consume you.

TRUST ME.

-Steve (aka MickeyMouse) if anyone has seem me around.

And some people are thusly affected by wine, beer, spirits, drugs, etc.

I, on the other hand, enjoy a glass of wine with my dinner. And later a good game of CS;)

CS is best enjoyed with friends, or regulars. :)

When it comes to intoxication, wine is my favorite choice while playing CS. When my nerves are calm, my hearing is more acute and causes me to slow down and take my time when stalking my prey.

CS is a good game, someone should take an existing game engine, that has the source released for it and clone 99.9% of what CS already is. Someone could easily take Quake/Quake2, update the texturing, modeling, etc to import the existing .bsp files for maps, .wad for textures and .md3 for animations. If someone would port the basics, I'm positive we can find people to port that project to other OSes (namely OS/X and Linux). CS would definitely grow in popularity if Linux players could play against their Win32 counterparts, let alone a few Mac users out there.

Now that CS has been well played and well analyed, someone could easily port 99.9% of the gameplay elements, damage system, etc. Getting it to another game engine would be a minor challenge, but Quake2 is SO close, it could be done quickly.

Am Beta3 player aswell
Nice to see so much folks from anandtech like the game like me.

If I cummulate all the hours I've spent playing this game... errr well I don't want to know.. :). Around CS1.1 (my favorite version) I played something like 60-70h/week during more then a month... geez Hopefully thats past :)

Headphones, Radar, AK/colt or AWP thats all you need to make a 50-0 score :)

----------
i found my ti4600 going down to 60s FPS during a intense fight with lots of gun fires and smoke. <-------Seems low don't you think?
---------
The smoke is a complete mistery... don't think your system needs tweak or it sucks or anything.. the problem how the smoke was programmed. One of my friend with a 2200+ and radeon 9700pro still looses FPS with a smoke (like 20fps each smoke..) and I've got another friend witch had a TNT2M64 with a 666mhz P3.. yes he had CRAPPY fps... (10 to 50) but a smoke would not in any way make his FPS lower..

#2 needs to be changed.

But you could change #1 as well and it would make no diffference in CS.

Personally I use gamespy and I don't have to use the notepad, and I could always find new servers, or whatever map I feel like playing instantly. Gamespy automatically inserts the console tag to your half-life exe so that you get a console automatically very nice.

I have the MX700(which is the exact some mouse but only wireless) and I have a tweak which(should hopefully) fix your problem. Logitech drivers suck(and always have), but if you use MS drivers only, you lose the functionality of a button or two, since you paid good money for that mouse, you're probably not interested in doing that.

Basically it's set the wheel scroll to none in the Logitech control panel app, then install WinXP TweakUI and enable the wheel there. Then everything works, all the time. At first I didn't like the idea of mix Logitech and Microsoft control of a single device. But decided to try it and it really is a cleaner solution. You can get the TweakUI utility here

If this doesn't help your problem with the binds(I'm assuming it's the wheel problem because every logitech mouse has this problem, I know you didn't mention the wheel at all :D), rebind your keys again, and then when you're done, select the properties of your \cstrike\config.cfg and set it to READ-ONLY. This will make sure that your binds won't be messed with(some servers do that) and I would also suggest making a backup of your config.cfg file.

For everyone that has problems with the Logitech mice and games: do not install the logitech software. I went through version after version of their mouseware drivers to only find they do not work as well as the base usb mouse drivers. Microsoft is the only company (it seems) that actually gives a crap about their base OS drivers for their mice so nearly EVERY game works with the extra buttons. All of my mice (MS and Logi) use the default WinXP/2k drivers and I don't have too many issues in games.

Logitech claims they'll get together a driver set together for gamers, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
