There's the evidence.

Maybe I'm wrong... but that evidence is sure pointing the the fact that TF2 will be worse.

Not only do you have no knowledge of the original Team Fortress, but you criticize TF2's graphics. You're an idiot.

Six words: "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time"

It does look pretty nice.

However, I think the problem with any of these team type games is that most the people on public servers don't give a turd about the team they are playing for. They either are just out for themselves or they actively work against their own team for their own shats and giggles. I suppose if you want to take the time and join up with a clan and stick with clan matches you can avoid that but for me that wouldn't be an option.

So even if it is a great game, actually having a good time playing it will be tough.

That's all very true. It's always a good idea to ad servers to your favorites as well when you run across one that has a decent community and fair admins.

I never played the original Team Fortress but i love a good CS:S match and when i first saw the cgi for TF2 my instincts told me that i'm really going to dig this game(and they're usually correct). This one looks like the leap that i've been waiting for.

Well Valve does allow the hitboxes to lag in CS:S for a slight graphical improvement...

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, that is misleading wording. It's not "lag" and the hitboxes don't delay independent of the model. It delays updating the other players so that it can smooth between packets. (cl_interp / ex_interp)Not only that, but it does this in regular CS too.

If you're not talking about interpolation, please explain.

As for changes, face the facts. There's ALWAYS going to be someone who complains. Either they don't change enough or they changed too much. In fact, the most ideal circumstance for developers would be if there were an equal amount of complainers on both sides of the fence. The best thing you can do for YOURSELF is to enjoy it for what it is. If you still prefer TFC (or even the original) then by all means, play that. Graphics aren't that important.

Personally, I love the new style. It seems to fit decently well with the gameplay, which looks quite comical and nothing close to realistic. Plus, it makes it stand out from an overcrowded market of derivative art styles.

You said a mouthful. Probably why it's looks so good is because it looks so different then anything else seen on the market to date.

Why wouldn't that be an option? 😛

Imho, a good pub is one that lets its players play. If you want real organization on a pub, you're looking in the wrong place. Then again, I remember it was common back when TFC was newer. In the inital days of TF2 you should be able to find a decent enough server.

I watched that intro movie and I am anticipating the release of Episode 2 now...I also do hope they add portal support to Episode 2.

TF2 better be more like TF1 and less like TFC, which is TF1's retarded bastard stepchild. Although I doubt it will be, because HL1 and HL2's network code has always sucked making it extremely unlikely that it has fast gameplay.

I usually agree with your gaming comments but I think you're sore grapes on this one.

HL used the Quake1 engine. TFC was an update to TF1 by the same developers, it's a very solid game that still being played today. How much TF1 is being played today? Maybe you're trying to come off as old school hardcore with your comment but it honestly doesn't fly and TFC history proves that.

Not to mention your net code comment. If HL and Quake aren't good net code then what do you call good? Whatever your answer is it goes against the entire online popularity of HL, CS, TFC, Quake123, etc. Can you explain that?

Good netcode? Quakeworld 🙂. It was written by Zoid. The maker of Threewave CTF. HL's netcode is not that similar to Quake's unfortunately for very small reasons. HL netcode has always catered to the lagger / HPB. In quake, if you lag you freeze in place until you are good to go again. They added code later on to avoid this but it was never that bad until it reached HL where they completely allow HPBs to run around lagging and playing as if they had a normal ping, which in turn makes them terrible targets. They also added the interp talked about earlier in the thread.

TF has nothing in common with TFC. And yes it is still being played today, much to the shock of how old Quake1 is. Grab Team Fortress Done Extreme aka TFDE 1 and 2 sometime if you want to see what the game was like.

I'm not trying to sound hardcore, but I've played both mods extensively, and the original was far better. To wait this long for a sequel and get one that doesn't match up to the original is depressing.

It makes sense to go with the cartoony graphics since we are already inundated with "realistic" team-based shooters (CS:S, BF2, etc). Stands out in the crowd.

Meh. I agree with skace, unless the gamepay is as fast paced as QWTF, Q3F, ETF, etc the game won't be worth playing. Sure the videos make the visuals look good, but that doesn't mean sh!t if the game isn't fun. I still play ETF today and will most likely move onto D3F or Q4F when they're released unless TF2 is surprisingly good.

i've played TFC for about 4-5 yrs... i think i'll give tf2 a try for shitz and giggles (its coming out with hl2ep2 and with PORTAL...i'll def be playing portal)

I understand your point much better now. I preferred the TFC update. For me it wasn't about the snap shot anymore as it was about eluding and tricking the enemy players. Of course you hope for the frantic pace of TF1 as I hope for the cunning of TFC.

For me the best update will be like the CS:S update. Exact same gameplay with updated engine. For you the best upgrade will be different. I suspect they'll do it like CS but I could be wrong, maybe it'll be entirely different for both.

Yep, exactly. IMO, [good] frantic gameplay is sorely lacking these days in between the constant wave of realistic strategy based shooters. It's sad when BF2 is considered frantic.

Also, you are most likely right, which is why I'm able to confidently bitch long before it arrives.

Oh and nothingman, I've got my eyes on Q4F also. Hot. Too bad Quake4 isn't extremely smooth in multiplayer, hopefully the next graphics card update (currently a 7800gt) will make it run flawless like it should. It's weird though, all the FPS hiccups I've run into have been completely unaffected by resolution changes. Like certain large rooms on the CTF maps just choke.

I haven't even tried Q4 yet because my home machine won't run it so I have no idea how good/bad the multiplayer is.

you're obviously too retarded to understand. i was making fun of the people who say that they won't play a game because the graphics look cartoony. i wonder where all those people are now?
