It will also force developers out of pc games entirely as well. It is important to let developers know there is money to be made on the pc as well. Remember without developers making games your $500 GPU is nearly worthless.

I guess it is just me but I am saddened when I see people say they refuse to buy a game until it is $20. That just tells the developer nobody cares and they will not make any games for the platform. Sure it is ok to refuse to buy a game but when you say you won't pay more than bargain bin prices, that sends a message that a developers time isn't well spent making a game for the pc. It is just my feeling and opinion.

It really isn't that I disagree with you, but this is really the same as people who are devs saying "buy these guys games because I'm a dev and know all the hard work involved in making a game".

It's like supporting your friends band by going to their shows. If that band is playing at a venue that no one wants to go to, who's fault is it when no one shows up? Is it the bands fault for playing at that venue or the venues fault because no one wants to go there? Or maybe they just suck? Ultimately does it matter? It means no one is there except the ones saying "BUT THESE GUYS ARE GOOD YOU SHOULD GO!" At the end of the day, if that band wants to get fans/make money, something needs to change, and here's a hint: It isn't the fans.

Therein lies the root of most of the problems related to entertainment today. Companies have moved away from trying to please their consumer and went to a "accept what we give you for what we ask for model" You see it in music, games, movies, etc. Thing is, people have more choices than ever before, so why would they put up with things that annoy them? What is funny is people actually defend this as if these companies DESERVE their money. It is NOT that way at all. You EARN your consumers loyalty and trust and companies have forgotten about that because these days ALL they seem to care about is shareholders happiness above all else. While maybe a % of those shareholders are truly fans/consumers, it is not nearly as large as the ones who could care less about the company itself, just the profits that they may get from it.

Buying a game and accepting what is..forced upon you (because if you are buying it 'just to support the dev', it really IS forced upon you) only leads to even more. This has been proven time and again. While I do think Ubi has at least made movements in the right direction those changes were due to people railing against them and even so, they've got a ways to go. Throwing money at something "just because" is not something many but the most obsessed people do these days.

(ugh sorry for the long ass post....it is really a broad subject that is hard to discuss on a forum at any length).

Yeah I never really liked those background programs, especially Origin+web browser for BF3/4, now there are constant connection and server stability issues considering web browser based (and requiring ESN Sonar). There are others that can hinder gameplay such as BitRaider with the NCSoft launcher and such. At least with Planetside 2 the launcher closes itself after you start the game.

Uplay is part of the package, and informed consumers will look at it as a whole. People shouldn't be detaching what will ultimately be part of their experience out of the kindness of their hearts, as it just perpetuates the cause of their reluctance. So if the developer gets the bargain bin message from consumers, they should be intelligent enough to look at all of the information. Did the game get good reviews? Were there any focused complaints on the forum? Was the game buggy? Then they can decide if the game they made is the issue, or if the DRM scared off customers. Of course if they don't come to this conclusion, and they decide to jump ship to console exclusives, so be it, that's the free market.

Of course all of this is rather irrelevant, as I'm assuming the amount of people concerned with Uplay is extremely small, and a percentage of those people will end up being all talk and buy the game anyway. So I wouldn't worry about a few forum goers like myself not buying the game.

This. So much of this.

I agree with that last comment. It has had a rocky development.

I looked it up on Steam and couldn't find any mention of 3rd party DRM and started wondering. Good to hear about not having Uplay. I haven't bought in on any of the EA games that require Origin and stuff like that. I too, am cautiously optimistic about the game due to the lengthy development. Really hope they pulled it off because the trailers looked pretty good.

Wait, you're telling me an overhyped 60 dollar Ubi game ISNT going to use their DRM?

Why do I feel like declaring Shens?

IIRC From Dust also claimed they weren't going to use Uplay/DRM and then they did....guess we will see. I hope it doesn't because I really am interested in this game

The way I look at it, DRM is a value subtract. So if a $60 game requires Steam to start up, that's -$20. UPlay is another -$40. So until it's basically free as part of Humble Bundle I will not be getting this.

I agree with the principle but not the amounts.

GOG is 0.
Steam is 5.
Ubi is 15 (I did finally purchase Far Cry 3 dirt cheap)
And YuPlay is 500.

I definitely intrigued by this; I can forego a bit of gameplay if the game is fun and makes me laugh (does not happen very often). Not sure I want to throw down sixty bones though.

I wouldnt have in any case. Will wait a year. They'll have DLC and base price will be much lower. (And most of the bugs are worked out at that point anyway.)

Hmm, yes, good point. I do hate testing all of the bugs in a new game and I have a sneaking suspicion this one could be a bit of a bug-fest.
