Oh My God

Check your DMA settings.

In start > settings > control panel > system properties, click on the device tab. Click the plus next to disc drives, right click primary IDE controller and select properties. Click the settings tab and make sure DMA is selected. You might have to restart.

Come back if that doesn't work.
 
Even with the DMA setting not checked it should not be that SLOW! I'd say you MSI has a junk IDE port or the south bridge is whacko.

It says DMA if available. The bios settings for dma are "auto" or "none" Sigh.

Do you have a separate IDE card such as the Promise cards, to test and see if perhaps you just got a defective board with defective IDE channels? My roommate had a mobo with defective IDE's one time. Also, if you don't have another, try putting your HDD on the secondary IDE channel and see what sort of performance you get then.

Keep in mind that i had this hdd on my kt7-raidand it ran fine. I have another msi pro2a running a 46GB 75GXP and it has the same problem. 2 new mobos and two defecive ide's??? Not good... I will try the other channel... If I can't get this fixed tonight, back it goes, and I coming home with an Abit KT7-Raid (Or if BOTH the boards are defective, two NEW MSIer's)
 
i just tried the download version on my computer. i have the ibm deskstar 30gb. it ran the tests and my scores are above the ata66 marks. dma is enabled.

so something seems wrong with your setup since I have the msi board also.

Which 4-in-1 did you install? You need 4.26/27 for optimum performance in Win2k.
 
Like I said on the technical support forum, you absolutely NEED the betas to get Win2k performance up there. Next time, dont blame MSI, please.

Oh yea maybe its because I made him so mad by not praising his CraPoint controller and Abit boards, he probalby just want some revenge, who knows?
