Haven't seen Princess Bride in many many years, but have had an itching to watch it lately.

So, you've traced them back 1 generation, but, can you trace them back to their place of origin? (The Hidden Fortress)

You keep believing that it's "gender neutral."

It's a full-blown chick flick with some "swashbuckling" thrown in to get boys to watch a girly movie...:p

dude, you really have to watch it. you'll like it.

it even has Columbo in it, so, someone you can relate to.

This. I stated that I had no idea what the names in the right column were from and no one clarified. I tried searching for the first three on Google "Wesley Rougan humperdink" and got this thread as the first result.

even our resident geriatric was able to muster enough google-fu to figure this one out. Come on dudes, most fogies are scared that the computer is going to take their soul, and you let BoomerD out-google you?

also, failure to understand references to the Princess Bride is a failure of culture. Not our problem. :p

No.

Luke = Inigo
Han = Wesley
six-fingered man = Vader
OK. So now it's "My name is Luke Skywalker. You killed yourself. Prepare to die." That doesn't make any sense either.

It's a forced comparison that doesn't really work. The object of Luke's desires is defeating the Galactic Empire and restoring democracy; Wesley is just looking for some tail. Inigo and Fezzik start as Wesley's enemies but become his friends after he defeats them and kills their boss (Vizzini). There's nothing comparable to that in Star Wars.

So, the OP misspelled names that I copy-pasted?

Try it yourself.

:hmm:

"Wesley Rougan humperdink" gives me page 1 of this thread, page 2 or this thread, some Facebook account, something about Wesley Snipes, something about Tae Kwon Do, and FINALLY something about The Princess Bride. Now, how am I supposed to know which of those VARIED results is correct? If I start looking at multiple pages of results I'll see that The Princess Bride stands out, but Google is supposed to do that and sort/prioritize my results accordingly so that I don't have to. It didn't. I didn't. Easier to ask in a thread full of people who obviously knew but weren't saying.

I guess it's possible. The book came out in 73 and Lucas wrote Star Wars in 74. Star Wars is actually a very loose remake of The Hidden Fortress though, according to Lucas.
