so my little sister is 15, doesnt work, crys about finding a job...

so my mom bought her a $3000 used car, and told her all she had to do was pay the insurance.... well my sister came home from school and started whining that it wasn't good enough, now my mother is going to spend 6 grand on a VW Jetta for her... i feel so sorry for her because she is so disrespectful and doesnt appreciate anything...

when i was her age i had to pay for EVERYTHING that i got, my first car was a Plymouth Reliant station wagon that i saved up for and bought for 800 bucks cash...

Sorry but it's your parents fault for her acting the way she is. Buying her a different car is just making it worse.

so true... apparently my stepdad is completely against it, but my mom is a pushover when it comes to her, i guess because she's her only daughter..

my first car was pretty ugly but it was free so I LOVED it

yep, any normal person would be ecstatic to be getting ANY car for free, especially at 16.... but my sister is a spoiled little bi**h, this isnt anything new, she crys about everything from expensive clothes to how much lunch money my mom gives her... i really hope my mother puts her foot down and at least MAKES her get to help pay for her car

what kinda car is it?

Also, Slap her. Twice if you must.

the car my mother brought home for her is a blue ford escape... it's not perfect but it's damn well nice enough for a first car.. my sister was crying because it has a door handle that doesnt work... which would take about an hour of work to fix..

Tell your mom that it's ridiculous and she is contributing to your sisters feeling of entitlement.

Your parents should absolutely NOT buy her a different vehicle. They should tell her that she can have that one or if she wants something better/different then she has to sell it and put forth her own money to get something else.

edit: my first car was a hand me down from my older sister, 1985 nissan 200sx. I turned 16 in 1998.

I'm 20 and don't expect to own a car for at least 4 more years.

that's just lame

Well, my insurance would be >$3k, which is too much for a student who's parents don't give him a dime. Also, gas is more expensive here.

Why don't you have a seat, right over there. 😛

Honestly that would drive me nuts. My parents helped me out plenty growing up (bought me my first car, was nothing fancy but it was safe and relaible). I'd have no problem helping my future kids out if they were respectful and appreciative, but I wouldn't stand for the kind of attitude that your sis is displaying.

Your mother is an adult, she's making choices she thinks are good.
I suppose I could argue to feel sorry for your sister because your mom isnt teaching her how the world is that you do need to work towards things you want/need.

I suppose if i must feel sorry for someone, it's you OP, cause I'm sure somewhere in you you think "mom loves her more then she loves me".

My first car was over 10 years old, rusted out, barely moved forward, and had red velvet interior. But I loved it!

yep, mine was a piece of crap too, it was dented up, it had sit for a few years so it needed a tune up and hoses and what not, but i loved it, and i was out there fixing it up as soon as i got it... i worked min wage at mcdonalds to save up for that car...

as soon as i got it i started saving for a good car... bought a 91' Eagle Talon TSi AWD for 2500 bucks a few months later... drove it until i realized how much of a money pit it was, and then i made the same mistake again (because i loved that car) and bought another one lol.. a 92' Eclipse GS-T... finally got smart and saved up for a downpayment on a 98 Honda Accord Coupe, the only car i've ever financed and needed anything from my parents for, just a cosigner, i payed for the car in full myself.... i actually just got rid of that car, now me and wifey have a 91' Thunderbird super coupe (my car) and an 02 Chevy Impala SS (wifeys car)
