Just got an email from my girlfriend (I'm at work) that my stereo is now broken. Her roomate had a party there for her 21st birthday (we live across the street). I'm very full of rage at the moment, can't wait to here the story. The GF says it wasn't her. Here's her email (kind of funny):

well your stereao is broke/ I didnt do it. I am
dri=unk and pissed I tol d him to kick everyone out ,
bye

No, her roomate is a girl. Her roomates boyfriend happens to live with me, that's why the party was at my apt.

was it a nice stereo? see this as an excuse to get a newer one... look at the positives! anyways, not to be a jerk, you agreed to have the party at ur place...if you want, u can force the person who broke it to pay for it as that seems reasonable...or take em to small claims court...but then again, that might hurt "friendships"

I did know that the party was going on, but I don't think that makes me responsible, after all that party wasn't at my place because my girlfriend wanted it there, it was at my place because birthday girl's boyfriend is my roomate. I wouldn't say that I agreed to have the party at my place...after all, it is my roomates apt as much as it's mine. My philosophy on this is that if you're going to have a party (especially when vast amounts of alcohol are involved), YOU are responsible for anything that your guests do. Last year, I had a party at my house one weekend (the roomies were gone, different roomies), and someone stole over 40 CD's from my roomate. He was obviously pissed when he came home Sunday and realized what happened. (I didn't even notice until he did). I took responsibility for it, and paid for what his insurance wouldn't. I found out a few months later that the pri*k that stole the CD's was one of my friends. He ended up robbing his mom and friends one night and moving to florida shortly after my party. It was so weird - he NEVER was like that before. If I could only find him now...

It probably wasn't one of my friends, I hope it was though, I'm sure they would take responsibility for it. I just hope this doesn't turn out like another incident this summer:

Me: What the hell happened to the $180 of my imported beer and booze that was here 5 hours ago????

Roomie: Dude, my friends drank it, I told them to leave money but they didn't.

Me: Why in the hell did you let them drink it?

Roomie: They said they were going to leave money.

Me: I don't care, that wasn't your stuff!

(a week later, still no money)

Me: Hey, are you going to ever pay me back?

Roomie: I gave you $10, that's as much as I drank. I said you could get the money from my frinds. Quit being such an ass about this.

Me: Me?!?! You're the one who had your frinds over and gave them my booze, don't you think that it's your responsibility to get the money from them????

(Finally, I was compensated. All is well now between us.)

Make the drunk bastard pay!!! People should have respect for other's property especially when the person (like yourself) is nice enough to host a party in their own place without them being there!

Maybe you should find some friends that aren't such hard corp lushes. Seems to me that alcohol is a large part of your problem.

PH (been there, done that)
😀
