When I moved back in April, I found a CC receipt for gas in a very (VERY) old pair of jeans from 1995.

$11.74 and it was most likely a fillup. I wish it had the PPG or how many gallons on it. LOL I could barely get to work on that much gas now.

Why I still had the jeans is the basis of an entirely different thread. They are now in a landfill somwhere.

I think I still have the receipt for the first "windows 95 computer I bought new in 96 or 97. It was (and still is) a Sony PCV 130, Original Pentium 200 Mhs with MMX! woohoo! Came with 32 mb of RAM, a 2 mb ATI All-in-Wonder video card, and a 4.3 Gb HDD.
WOW was it fast compared to some of the windows PC's from just a couple of years prior.
IIRC, it was about $2500 with the 15" Sony Trinitron multimedia monitor.

I still have both in a closet.

Heh. It was the $1,800 dollar estimate for a timing belt change that finally killed off the love affair with my A4. Of course, the $500 radio repair and $1,200 headlight repair already put that romance on the rocks :)

My advice? If you want an Audi, just get a 3 year lease and unload it. You DO NOT want to be owning one of those things once the warranty runs out!

And this is why for practical reasons I'll stick to a Japanese car as much as I love to drive European cars. I'm much too poor and limited in time to deal with repairs and stuff like this =(

Doooooood! :Q WTF did you have "repaired?" The engine, transmission and all the glass? Sounds like a seriously expensive repair. I hope the car is worth more than $3K.

wlel let's see, i have the list here....
parts:
ABS wheel speed sensor
front main seal
timing belt kit
thermostat
water pump
coolant
serpentine belt kit
frnot main seal cover gasket
trans pan + filter kit + fluid
motor mount + trans mounts
oil pan seal + oil
cam seals
check valve
valve cover gasket
cam tensioner seal

install timing belt, replace water pump. install control arm kit (i purchased separately), install all the other pats above. plus alignment.

yeah.......
Ah, it was all routine maintenance....

Jesus Christ. :Q

Timing belt/water pump and serious tuneup sounds about right for a 99 Audi with 135,000 miles.

Actually, you're lucky that the belt didn't blow. VWs and Audis generally call for a timing belt replacement at 80,000 miles. That's an overcautious number but by 100,000, I'd be making plans to get it done ASAP.

I paid $380 for a camera phone when they first came out. The camera wasn't even attached to the phone. It was a separate attachment that you connected to the bottom of the phone.

A complete transmission replacement alone can cost that.

Never ;)

Parts weren't that bad
Labor is what killed me :( :(

If I could have done it all myself, I would have.

This is exactly why, after over 30 years of "BMW love," I'm about to get rid of what will be my last Bimmer.

I love the cars, love the way they drive and handle, but since I can no longer do my own repairs and maintenance, they've finally gotten too expensive for me to own.

BMW= Break My Wallet
BMW = Bring More Wrenches

But they truly are "The Ultimate Driving Machine."
(some just a bit more "ultimate" than others.) :D

BMW=Big Money Waste

It's an Audi. That's just typical of what happens when you take it in for repairs. Oh, by the way, you need another $1500 worth of repairs beyond what you brought it in for.

One of our IT guys has an A4 and that thing is constantly in for repairs. I seriously think he's replaced everything on that car at least once or twice.

I have a '04 A6 3.0 Quattro - has been at the Audi dealership for about a month now. Thank GOD I still have it under warranty as they've given me a courtesy car (which I don't mind as I'm saving a lot of miles on my car). Basically, my engine light was on and they couldn't figure out the problem and neither could Audi HQ in Germany (they think it's a "hairline fracture",) so they decided to completely replace my engine for free all they want is my engine back to find out wtf is wrong with it. I'm obviously happy about that, but I'm scared once my warranty runs out I'll be running into more problems. I'm strongly thinking about selling the car relatively soon and picking up a new C-Class Benz or a certified '04-'05 S-Class.

I can honestly say I'll probably never buy an Audi again as I've taken it in a few times due to various problems and if i didn't have it under dealership warranty I'd be fucked right now. Beautiful cars, fun to drive, just damn they need constant maintenance.

I still have that receipt for an HP desktop with a Centurion processor (450Mhz) from 10 years ago. It was about $2000.

I guess this is sarcastic, right?

correct.

Electronics always seem to exhibit deflation over time, unlike most consumer goods.

But as they age and become rarer they start to inflate again. Case and point, the older generation consoles (NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis). Same goes with older, rarer games.

Yeah, I don't see the fascination with old video games and game systems. I saw an unopened copy of Chrono Trigger sell on ebay for some outrageous amount (hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars, I can't remember exactly). It was a good game, but not THAT good.

BLASPHEMY! Chrono Trigger was THE greatest RPG ever made... PERIOD! And it's definitely in my top 5 or 10 best games ever. But yeah... you can get that game on an emulator nowadays... don't see the need to shell out hundreds to get the original cartridge.
