Before anyone bashes me up, I (unwillingly) am forced to agree, it is a handy tool for that usage also ... -sigh- :roll:

hahaha

i've asked before if there was any way to password protect a folder, and noone could help me. i guess truecrypt hadn't proliferated enough for it to be common knowledge. but somehow every time everybody knew what the use was going to be 😛

so i'm guessing 70+% of the time truecrypt is used, it's to hide a porn collection. 😀

the best part is you can put it in a hidden volume, and put random files and pictures in an unhidden volume. When someone thinks they've found your porn and challenges you to open the volume, you just use a different password and voila, you've fooled them!

I use truecrypt with a flash drive. That way I can easily carry around all my stuff without having to worry about what happens if it gets lost.

The one thing I wish truecrypt would do is to encrypt a single file quickly or to encrypt some text. For example, sometimes I need to send a file or some info to someone, but they don't have encryption software installed etc. Truecrypt is great for a permanent solution, but not very good if you just need to send something to someone securely. PGP does have this functionality, but it's gotten huge and bloated with all sorts of other garbage I don't need.

Umm, what the hell kind of porn are you "collecting" that you need to keep it encrypted?

That or you're fapping at your parents' computer and are hiding it.

If it's just a single file or some text that means you won't need to have 'heavy' encryption on it. A password-protected zip file will do just fine. (or rar for that matter)

I *should* know. (remembers an old incident here ... )

And if the file is small enough, even with brute force, it will be difficult to open up your protected file.

I have all of my passwords saved on my computer - something you should never ordinarily do. Dual-layer encryption helps. 😀


(Ok, all passwords are saved, except for one very important one. Not even an idiot would use this one on his luggage. Heh heh heh....)
