Oh, how I detest the VW beetle.

I prefer something like this myself. But I have to give kudo's to VW for bringing back the beetle design, even if it's not in it's original form. Modern emissions and safety standards just do not permit it (I'd still love to have a 90's model mexican built beetle!)

Shot these two, on the same property, hurriedly through the window of my car on Rt. 86 in Thompson OH yesterday:
The 1st one possibly could be. It certainly looks like it. Amazing condition for a '60-'63 model. I'd love to take that one home.
The 2nd is not of a model year that I like. Looks like a '75 I think. I don't like any aircooled VW's built '72 or later.

5) The heater actually works in cold weather.
6) It doesn't float.

And the windshield cleaner fluid sprayer isn't powered by air from the spare tire!

LOL, my 68 didn't float either, but that was because the floor boards were rusted out.

If you want want of the Mexican or South American Beetles, buy a US pre-71 bug chassis/body. Somehow import one of those bugs (C'mon... If they can bring in tons of pot, surely a little car should be no trouble), remove the vin plates, grind off the serial numbers, and replace all with the info from the old bug.

Tada! A nearly new bug that's smog free! ;)
