I sold to my buddy my old system (athlon xp 2500, mobo asus a7n8x and my old case ).

And now nothing work. When he plug the power into the power supply, there is a RED and GREEN light that light up on the mobo. But thats it.No juice.Nothing.I tried his power supply on ma machine and its working.I try my power supply on his machine, and his machine dont boot at all.No sign of life.

So i just want to confirm this.Is it the mobo that is dead or its MAYBE the case???

The red light shows that his video card is a 3.3-volt card. The board is not compatible with 3.3-volt cards, so he will need something else.

edit: I think Asus owes me a pizza by now 😛

it was working like for a month and a half, and it suddently stop working. So i dont think its the 9600 pro he have in this machine that is the problem.

so is it the mobo?

The 9600 Pro is definitely not a 3.3V card, so that's a good sign 🙂 The other thing that the red light beneath the video card can indicate is that the card isn't seated properly. Or by a stretch of the imagination, perhaps that the card is faulty. Can he test with a different video card? Anything from the original GeForce generation onwards will definitely be ok.

Hmmm, only thinkg i didnt try is the video card. But i would get power no? I just got no sign of life.Nothing.When the power button is press.Nothing happen. The only thing we saw is the red and green light on the mobo when the power connector is hock up behind.

It would damage the motherboard to power up with a 3.3-volt card in there. So if it thinks it has one (whether it's correct or not), it is wise to stay powered down. Page 10 of the mobo manual talks about the LEDs.

mechBgon rules. He's quoting page numbers out of manuels.:Q

How many a7n8x's have you built with?

The thing that suck the most is that everything on his pc was running flaweless for a month and a half...then...suddent pc reboot,Slow power up( he press power and it take time to power on) etc

Could be a PSU problem. If the board was getting low voltages from the PSU it might cause strange mobo behavior. mech?

LOL, just two A7N8X Deluxes and one A7N8X-X 😀 But my full mobo-manual arsenel, in .PDF format, is big enough that I need two CDs to back 'em all up  If I had broadband, I'd have many many more, too 😀

ifesfor, maybe your friend's power supply is not very good? What brand and model, if you happen to know?

Tell mye you are joking. You dont' have broadband .... I am amazed...
Comcast Cable is doing their darndest to lure me, with all those billboards and flyers featuring cheetahs :Q But $55 a month for Internet, ouch.

Its not the PSU.I try his PSU on my machine and its working, and i try my power supply on his machhine, and it doesnt start.

ahhhh

Did you pull the board out of the case and check for a grounding or shorting problem? Also, the board could have gone bad. That would really stink, but it's possible. Good luck!
