Just got my LG Bluray/HD disk drive for my computer and my 21.5" full 1080p monitor. First movie I watched was kingdom of heaven. Holy frickin ape shit, this stuff is amazing.

Oh...and it's great to do school work on too 🙂

I wish they had Blu-ray when I was in college...hell, I wish we could afford a PC when I was in college...even better yet, I wish they would have had DVD when I was in college....or something other than Windows 95....or.....

Well, I'm sure it looks nice, but on a 21.5" screen I'd question whether you're really gaining THAT much over its DVD counterpart. An upscaled DVD on a PC hooked up to a 22" LCD looks really nice too..

If he's sitting close he'll definitely notice the difference between an upscalled dvd and a blu-ray.

I'm sitting about 24" away from it and the difference is definitely noticable from DVD to Blu-ray. I'm the only one in my dorm room so I've got tons of space so I have my 5.1 system hooked up via coax cable.

Yeah, and that's at 720p. On 1080 it must look even better.

After watching blueray, I don't buy dvds anymore. Either I'll buy it in BD or don't buy it at all. It's that good, at least to me.

if i set t 1920 x1020 , the pic goes off the screen, soi have to adjust to 1776 x 1000 to get down to the "correct" size.

anyone else have this?

weird. never happened from my PS3, only got overscanning from my PC. Have you tried 1:1 mapping aspect ratio setting (called different name under different brands) from your tv?

once you have a way to play blu-rays it seems obvious that all the movies you rent/buy should also be in blu-ray format.

The physical size of the monitor is mostly irrelevant. Resolution, and how close you sit are vastly more important. Sitting at my desk looking at my 24" monitor at 1080p is comparable to a 60" 1080p TV at 7 feet

blu-ray is great. I am surprised it is taking so long for the general public to adopt it as the new standard. I fear it will be short lived though, as I think someone like apple is going to come into our living rooms and supply us with downloadable content that is not as good as BRD.

i dont get dvds or anything anymore, only blu-rays. my technologically retarded family notices a difference (albeit i have a really nice tv because i did my research), so how do other people not notice it, or think its negligible? everything looks so much better. i will say that it is true that some blu-rays look much nicer than others, and some BRDVDs arent really much of an improvement over their dvds because the manufacturers are lazy.

I think the price needs to come down before the public shows a general interest.
$29 for a new release is a bit much. Especially when you may watch it, what, maybe 3 or 4 times tops (if even that). I bought the new batman, watched it once, will probably watch it one more time again, then that will be it. By then it will no doubt be on HBO HD.
