Just put up 225 on the bench. One rep but I think I could have done 235, it was that easy.

Got to get my crap together next week when things in life slow down.

Gratz, OP! I just cleared 400 on deadlift last night as a PR. I need to work up my bench and squat still :(. I'd love to be able to pop up 225 on bench.

Good job. I'm not sure I'll ever bench two plates. As long as I can get a bodyweight bench and a 4 plate deadlift some day, i'll be happy.

I'm not sure why tall guys can't bench.

Good job OP. Next milestone, 250.

Long arms don't help, I'd imagine, but you can still hit a decent amount. 74" wingspan here, no idea if that's in a normal range or not. Way back when, maxed 330.

Looks like the average is 71".

I hit 235 for 5 on Monday. Personal Record. 43 years old and I'm stronger now than I was at 23.

Great job guys :)

My BP along with my upperbody exercises have been the only things to not have taken a huge tank on my cut.

Congrats! Just keep plugging along and 315 will be there before ya know it... then it's the ever elusive 4 plate bench ;)

I haven't benched with a bar in at least 6 - 8 years now (just use adjustable dumbbells at home). Would be curious to see what I could conceivably max out at.

As mentioned above, I have ridiculously long monkey arms, so I would imagine that does not help.

Not to single you out Jeebus, just something I've been thinking about recently.

I hear lots of people complain that they can't squat as much weight because they have long legs, or can't bench press as much because they have long arms. When I look at my Overhead Press form check videos, I'm struck by how long my arms are and think I could probably do more weight if they were a little shorter.

But long arms are a huge advanage in almost every other situation. When I play softball they allow me to generate more bat speed. When I play hockey they allow me to use a shorter stick which in turn improves my stick handling. When I play soccer they make it easier to shield the ball. So I think it's actually a pretty damn good tradeoff to have to use smaller plates at the gym, but to have all the functional advantages outside it.

No worries - nothing I've been concerned with since high school, and that's going back at least 16 years now. Long arms make me bionic - no kitchen stool needed to reach stuff high up in the cabinets. I suppose if I was ever forced to sit down and max out on a bench, they also provide me an excuse for wussing it up.

I'm 5'10 and my arm span is 5'11.5 :p

I only found out a few weeks ago my arm span was longer than my hight. Never really stopped me doing anything. Just train and get stronger.

Thanks for the comments!

Life has been hectic. I havn't lifted in 2 weeks but a friend was over that used to lift in high school. So we goofed around with my weights. Figured it was a good chance to do a 1 RM attempt. Next week I hope to start lifting again. And running for that matter.

I bench just as much as I squat and dead lift... Which is to say I can't do any of them.... 185 at sets of 4-5. I'm 6'7 and 235

Great job! 225 bench was a goal for me for a while. I got an R3 rack and setup around that, did the 5x5 program. I did 5x5 and slowly progressed up, and tried 225, when my numbers happened upon it and i was able to do it. Actually got the bench up to 255 with that and now im on a cutting phase. I also drank a prot shake and creatine every day right after so I know that helped.

My goal all along was just to use 225 as a work set that i would pound out 8 reps or so with ease, which puts the max around 275-295.

During this cut im going to shift over to more DB presses and use the bar less...mainly just squats and deads.

Forgot to mention. I tried 235 a week after the easy 225. I could have done it but my form was off. I was not making a path straight up and the weight was to far towards my feet so it was a failure. But i could do it if I tried again!
