It is indeed different. Court appearance is required even if I want to plead guilty. It says the fine amount on the back of the ticket.
Is this in NJ? According to this site (paragraphs 2 and 3) you can pay speeding tickets online in NJ. Am I reading it wrong? They refer to the list of payable violations (Statewide Violations Bureau Schedule) and it includes speeding 1-9 MPH, speeding 9-14 mph, speeding 15-19 mph etc. up to 40 mph over which requires court appearance. Hopefully you weren't going 40 or mph over.

Well that happened with me before...I caught it a couple days after the court date and called the office. They rescheduled my court date. They give you a certain # of days before they issue a bench warrant. Don't know if it's the same in other states though.

yeah there's probably a bench warrant out for your arrest. don't get caught doing anything stupid.

call or goto the court house to clear things up
bring your check book

Okay, I just called them. The clerk told me that the judge issued a "failure to appear". I asked what kind of penalties that carries she said none. She just rescheduled my court date.

In Oregon if you miss your first date there is an automatic one week extension.

It really depends on where you are & how strict they are about it.

It usually says it right on the ticket!

UPDATED: Prosecuter would not let me plea bargain on a speeding ticket 20 MPH or over. I had to pay $206 + court fees and I got 4 points. 🙁
Moral of the story: Don't speed.

I just did the same thing myself. Got a ticket for 15 over in another county about 45 minutes away. The court date wasn't for a month and I forgot about it. It was last thursday and I called Monday because I realized it over the weekend and found out the court there is only open on thursdays and fridays, the rest of the time nobody is around. I left a message with my phone number asking what I should do. I'm thinking of just taking a ride up there tonight since they'll be open. I just don't want to have to go all the way back again if they're just gonna reschedule me. Maybe I'll wait and see if they call me back, I dunno. What do you guys think?
