"Oh Comely" - Neutral Milk Hotel

This song is amazing. I just found the band yesterday, and already I've listened to the song a couple dozen times. Mangum's lyrics are tear-jerking and schizophrenic at the same time, and I've never heard alliteration used so masterfully in one song. I wish he had a better voice, but the emotion behind the lyrics more than makes up for his relative lack of experience. I highly recommend listening when you can fully absorb the lyrics and feeling.

Sad that the band never became anything.

one of my favorites but that song in particular is blacklisted for me due to the emotional strain associated with listening to it lol. That album in general fits the category.

Mangum went off the grid for a LONG time but he started playing shows recently again, I saw him twice in the last year. He's still involved in the other elephant6 stuff and hopefully we'll get more records from him.


edit: oh, and his voice is perfect for the music imo.

That whole album is amazing. I listened to it for hours while in high school and learned probably all the songs on guitar (basic chords, anyway).

That particular album is a concept album about Anne Frank, but not all his material is.

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is one of my favorite albums of all time. A true gem.
