Oh boy - Another gift from the French - Cancer!*

Freedom Fries linked to Breast Cancer
Link

In all seriousness - we need a diet revolution in this country. We're going to find more and more of these studies linking Trans Fats and other processed foods to serious illness.

On a personal note - I had my Cholesterol checked the other day and was a little surprised at the results.

HDL 31
LDL 102
Triglycerides 99
Total 153

I was pretty surprised at the low HDL as I eat very healthy. Time for glass of wine a night, lose 15 lbs, get back to exercise 5x weekly. I don't want to be a statistic.

Uhh, France has *NOTHING* to do with crappy American Food. I bet they where happy when we changed the name from "French Fries" to "Freedom Fries".

..but probably not as happy as when we kicked the Germans out of their country and removed a dictator to give them their freedom; oh, wait, ....

Tab, if you want to pull your head out and talk about the French, we can 😀 (did you read the little asterik yet?)

I commend the French for their eating habits. They eat whole foods, they eat leisurely and often as a family, they enjoy healthy wine with their meals. Fast Food is very unpopular over there.

Now their smoking habits are another story.

Actually, I must point out, that the French diet is much healthier than ours. They eat a wider variety of vegetables, and their portions are much smaller.

French toast leads to increased risk of yeast infection.

French kissing leads to increased foot fungus.

French vanilla ice cream leads to increased paranytal cysts. (Rush must've been a huge diet of that back in the day. :laugh😉

French maids leads to increased use of condoms.

French dressing leads to arthristis.

French harp leads to narcolepsy.

French hen leads to vomiting.

And Pardon my French leads to offended pastors and reverends.

Last i looked the US didn't get involved until war was ceclared upon them after that, they defended theselves.

So every poin is througougly lost.

That said, the French need to realize that they are no great power anymore and give up thier bs.

Sheesh, the French part was a joke; not meant to turn this into a WWII debate.

I kinda thought so but since everyone else jumped i mad a tad of a clarification, so the morons wouldn't start thumping their chests harder than they could take.

I would love to go to Europe someday, I'd feel out of place not knowing the native languages though. 😛

I don't have a problem with bashing cultures, I didn't mean it sound like I am all worked up, just stating the facts.

Your LDL seems kind of high. My understanding is that under 130 is best. Your (good) HDL is also pretty low as you suggest (over 60 is best). Your total cholesterol and triglyceride levels are pretty damn good though...

That's where I have probs is triglycerides -- my last test in April showed 189 (and under 150 is best).

My issue seems to be needing more consistant exercise. Probably need to drop about 15-20 pounds too. Yikes!

Oops... I thought the thread really was about French food and cancer. 😱 LOL! Just pointing out that French food is good for you...

gack typo - my LDL is 102. Fixed (the numbers don't add up)

There are studies that indicate the ratio of HDL to total is the true key

Oh wow! Huge difference! Heh, okay well you seem to be doing pretty well then...

BTW, when was the last time you ate french fries?

Excellent point! Did they make you go on one of those pretest diets before they took your test?

French frys have nothing to do with the french (and I am no great fan of the french) (the statue of liberty was cool but what have you done for us lately?) (ya lafayette was a friend when we needed one but this crap can only go so far). the news, and there is news here, is all about the oil. (prepare for awefull spelling) this partially hydrogenated (some kinda) oil. Kids endever to buy greocrys that the farmer will reconize DO NOT buy food from factorys. The fast food , prepaired food . Kids its poisen it isnt that hard to buy a chicken a potatoe and a few carrots. It dosnt take that long, it costs less and its much better for you. A side salad goes a long way, this isnt rocket science.

DM: I don't quite remember the last time I ate a "full serving". I've nibbled a few here and there. Now I've pretty much banned them from myself completely 🙂

Whaspe: Nah - actually I had a banana and yogurt the morning prior. Not sure if it mattered or not.
