Officially switched from FF to opera

Red Squirrel

No Lifer
Was getting tired of the slow load times (takes a good 5 minutes to load the first time) and the random freezes while in the middle of typing a post.

So gave it up for Opera. Only thing I find that will be hard to get used to is lack of spell check as well as innability to have book marks on a tool bar. Also it seems vmware's console does not work so I have to use Firefox for that.

Firefox was the best when it was version 1.0, but I don't know what they did from there but it just got heavier on resources and started getting more issues. So decided to switch just like that today after the 4th random lock up. Was the last straw.

So to all opera fans, I have repented. 😛

what were you doing when it locked up? I've rarely had a lockup of FF. Slow to load, yes. 5 minutes... no. Though, what system do you have?

I would agree that Firefox takes a little bit longer to load but random freezing? That's strange, I've never encountered it with FF.

I had the random freezing issue in 2, so I skipped it completly. It's always while typing a very long post at a forum too so I lose it all. It just randomly locks up where I have to do end task. Then in 3 the issue was gone but it recently came back. Probably in one of their thousands of updates per day. They need to stop pushing so many updates and instead give more time to test then push as one big patch like once a week or something. They were just getting really bad with that.

My system is winxp on dual core athlon xp, 2.5GB of ram. I even overclocked recently and it's been rock solid. I render video and everything on here and there are no issues (had some but not related to stability, just codec bugs)

That's what I was wondering. I've used FireFox since V0.7. I could count the crashes on 1 hand, and I've never had performance problems.

Well to give it another chance (was already starting to miss it LOL) I did a full uninstall + delete profile then reinstalled. We'll see if that fixes the issue. I also disabled the updates, I think it's an update that caused all my issues.

Had lot of stale extensions too like stuff that was "neat" but just that, like piclense. Now it's a fresh install and the only extension I'll add is noscript for now.
