Edit: The irony is, I don't even WANT a system. I just want people who do want to buy one to be able to do so.
Please, they are in the business of selling computers. They do not care if somebody's 80-year old grandma is waiting for her grandchild to catch a good deal. They do not care if those PCs end up in somebody's garage, or get redistributed via eBay. They want them off their hands, fast and in large quantities.

Although I have to admit, it's just my opinion.

Let's ask bamacre. Last I heard he worked for Dell. 😀

To bamacre: Dude, when I read wchou's comment, I thought it was nutty. But the more I think about it, the more paranoid I get: Why else would you want to start a 1500-post thread to create competition for yourself? 😀

Is it the longest Hot Deal thread ever?

On a more practical note, does anyone know for sure the answer to the following (and no I did not read the fine print - that's why I am asking):

If I get a brand new or refurbished PC from Dell and add an internal HD to it, is my warranty still valid?

I don't know the answer to either of those questions. 🙂

Seriously, I started this thread at 3:30am one night after picking up about six 4700's dirt cheap. I had NO FREAKIN IDEA this thread would get so big. And, yeah, at times, I regret it. But it doesn't matter, enough people would have caught on anyways. The popularity hasn't been enough to keep me from snagging good systems. I've got a room full as I type.

Haha, that's so true. It will get routed through about 10 Indians before someone actually figures out what he's talking about.

BTW, if you think Dell cares about resellers on eBay, you're right. They silently SUPPORT them. Think about it. Dell is about inventory first, margins second. They have quarterly goals that are always met (or exceeded) because they can rely on resellers to snap up systems at heavy discounts.

Dell knows EXACTLY what to do when they need to clear some inventory...yesterday and today were perfect examples. Need to clear out some i600M and i6000? Why not release a $750 off affiliate coupon (Dell even sponsors one affiliate...FatWallet) targeted specifically at those systems and sell them at a hefty discount (but not at a loss).

Dell Outlet is the same way. Got excess inventory? Release some coupons, increase discounts, and watch the resellers clear the inventory. Sure, regular customers are fine too...snapping up one or two systems for themselves. But resellers who buy 10-20 a week are going to drop that inventory much, much faster.

Ever wonder why Dell doesn't release these Outlet deals or $750 off coupons to the mass media? Yes it would clear their inventory (a positive), but it would also tremendously devalue the computers the company sells 90% of the year at regular price. They WANT to keep resellers in Dell Outlet because not only do they have a steady stream of buyers ready to clear their inventory, but the act of reselling will soften the devaluation of their computers to the public.

A wiser person than I on FW said that eBay makes about 8% of their fees off auctions that sell Dell equipment. I'm not sure if they were correct or not, but looking at the countless thousands of systems/accessories listed...both Dell and eBay know about resellers and have (purposely) done little about it.

I hope you are right. I've been doing plenty of this, in fact considering it as my sole source of income. It's so damn simple and profitable.

One thing I want to add is that I have a strong suspicion dell puts brand new systems on Outlet, for two reasons. To clear out parts inventory, and sometimes, they actually sell for high prices.

Well I'm sure Dell has their fair share of refused shipments, people who change their mind in the first few days, etc.

It's hard to tell if a computer has been used if it was only turned on once or twice.

But I've recieved both new looking systems and noticeably old ones. Nothing a can of compressed air can't fix 🙂

whats up with the outlet site. i keep getting
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 20 seconds.

dell finally setting up a better db solution?

It's toast.

It's back up (and running fast), but no inventory 🙁 I'm calling it a night.

wierd. i just unboxed one of the three refurbed systems i ordered on 4/11, got it last friday. its the wrong computer.

i ordered an 8400 and got sent a 3000. i filled out the 'wrong order sent' form so we'll see what happens. i assume i dont have to pay to ship this one back...

Looks like the site is getting pounded with scripts that are badly filtered. I would wager that someone uploaded a script and linked it from a deal site and a bunch of people who didn't set the filters and what not just started using it. The Inventory comes up for a few and then systems that aren't even near a bargain get snatched up. Looks like they got the add to cart feature figured out but instead of filtering by price or model number they are just adding everything to a cart and if more than a handful of people are using the script they are going to pound the site all night until Dell starts blocking IP's.

Just a thought, no need to flame me unless you work at Dell and are sure that isn't the case LOL 🙂

i tried to use scripts but i didnt get one hot systems with proximo-whatever. all the systems i get are lucky timing and good F5'ing... 😀

shatterghost is right. I see in FW they have sent out instructions on how to use proxo. they just made a dump around 1:45am and everythings gone already. even the sucky systems...
i have on in my cart and i cant even check out. stupid dell error... 🙁

Hopefully newb scripters will get frustrated and stop.

yeah i found a hot 8400 but it was 1237 dollars... not eligible for 30% (if that's still alive) i think dell purposedly adjust many of the systems to below the 1250 mark so you cant use the 30% off coupon

myAmex is a 'tard. First he brags non-stop about his script and the systems he's grabbing, then he REPOSTS a crappy Proxo script from another Dell Outlet thread.

This guy is batting 0 for 2.

And the poor saps using his script are going to get frustrated quickly having to empty their full carts of crappy systems every minute.

i'd be all for dell allowing a refresh every 20 sec or something like that. of course you could just start a bunch of instances of your script/program to get around that.

Well, I certainly have the know-how to do this. When I get a sec, I'll make a decent script and send it out far and wide.

Remember, that 1250 counts torward the original price, not the sale price 🙂

Gshock, Add something to it when you get it into the cart like the 3 year warranty which should remain part of the system and not an add on. That may let you use the coupon.

Oh and I found out if you can get it into the cart but can't check out, wait a a minute or so, hit the back button to where you had the system checked and then try to add to cart again. It worked for me when I got the error on a $199.00 3 GHZ 4700 the other night and I was able to purchase it.

Is this a hot deal for $1226 shipped? Any resale value?
