Ok.... I think I am going to dive into this. I am looking for more of a higer end PC:. My current one is dogging big time on video processing. This is what I narrowed down to.

600 Series Processor
2 Gig of DDR2 Ram (figure I can add another 2 Gig later in the open slots cheap)
Audigy 2
6800 GTO
160 or 250 Gig drive.
Plus whatever SW it comes with as a bonus.

I have seen a couple come through in the $1200 range ... looks like a pretty good deal.
REALLY wish I could package a 24" monitior with this, but I'll think I'll wait for the next standalone deal for that to pop up.

First ... am I best off buying here for this, or looking elsewhere ?
Also, the Chassis of desktop pops up ... what is that ? I do not see anything other than towers in the new side ... what is mini-chassis, desktop, etc ?

Thanks for the thread everyone ...

Oh good, i can beta test the direct drop app i wrote. 😀

lol.. whats direct drop app, whats it do?
His new prog queries the main outlet database directly. He can now get systems that don't even show up on the inventory webpage. I have ordered a copy of his new prog for $1000 and will run 3 instances on 20 Dell refurbs to beat everyone else here and at FW. 😀 😛

Dell outlet may be your best bet for a 8400. Dell sometimes has deals on new 8400s but they are usually basic configs and the cost goes up quickly when you start adding extras and upgrades. You can check here and some of the other hot deal sites to see if they have a deal on a new 8400 with a 24" LCD. You should also config a new 8400 to your specs and see what type of price you get and compare it to a refurb with the same or similar specs. You should not have too much competition in the mid to high range 8400s since everyone seems to be going for the low priced systems with their scripts.

The 8400 only has one physical case style but they appear to name it differently depending on the processor type, 5xx (MiniTower) vs 6xx (desktop).

hey ! That makes sense ... easy way to search instead of clicking on the details .... thanks !

Am I going to get much bang on the 600, or should stick with the 500 series (a bit cheaper).

What's damaged on the casing? Fixable or are you returning it?

Ouch! I'd call and see if they'll replace it. Did it look like it was damaged in shipping?

I'm VERY happy b'c I have two very similiar to sell soon 😉
