I guess you could ask for the 9 instead of the 7. If you can come to town and sweep us, I'll tip my hat to you. Of course, we did that already.

AHAHAHAHA! Boston fans are really cocky for being 4 1/2 games back. LOL. I was gonna resist even saying anything in this thread because the games speak for themsleves, but you guys talking big when Pedro just got pounded, it just makes me laugh.
You know what's funny? The fact that the Twins are a far more dangerous opponent to you than Oakland is to us.

You'll probably face Johan Santana game 1, and likely lose. Better pray you win the next 3 games, else you face him again game 5.

Did you see Miguel Cairo's face on Friday? Priceless.

worry about your own team, it looks like they didn't show up this past weekend.

ps, you'll eat those words on the Twins. we'll see you next weekend in fenway!!!

Go Yankees!!!

I am worried about my team. Derek Lowe is a scumbag who should never be allowed to pitch away from Fenway.

You worried about your closer? You got to Pedro once and seem quite happy about it. We've gotten to Mariano twice.
:) You are hopelessly in denial. WE may have only beaten up Pedro once, but the lowly Orioles did it, as did the Rangers and Angels. Scary. Oh, and yes, we got to Foulke too. No, I'm not worried about the bloopers and soft singles that you may get every now and then against Mariano on a night when he's off. The guy has been near untouchable this year, he's LAST person I worry about.

So teams have gotten to Pedro. And? He's not Vazquez, doling out runs by the dozen. And he's smart enough not to punch a wall and hurt his hand. He's better than any of your current starters.

Foulke's ERA and WHIP are lower than Marianos.

Schilling tore the yankees up in the 2001 playoffs, and he'll tear the up in 2004 playoffs.

Well, that is great. Check their saves.
Mariano has 19 more saves with 2 more innings pitched. His ERA is .05 of a point higher than Foulke's. Let's not even try to make the Foulke is better than Mariano argument.

Um, you do know what a save situation is, right? And that a closer has no control on how often those situations occur? We blow teams out often, hence, he doesn't get the save.

I'm not saying he is better than Mariano, because he isn't. I'm saying I am confident in his ability to hold the fort down when we need him.

And when did you get to Foulke? I assumed you were accurate in your statement, but Foulke hasn't blown a save against NY all year, and has only given up 2 runs to the Yankees.

Yes, I'm aware of what a save situation is.
I saw you trying to make a Foulke > Rivera argument, so I brought that up.

Pedro can still pitch, just not the Yankees. Their best shot comes if they were to win the east and NOT have to play the yankee's in the first round, and they get knocked out early.

Ah well. It could still happen, but, it's not looking good... well... it never did, but, it's nice that it's not mathematically impossible still. :)

Remember this game?

Foulke vs. NYY:
1.69 1 1 3 3 8 0 0 10.2 7 2 2 0 3 7 .184
Rivera vs. BOS:
4.66 0 2 2

9.2

pwnage. Time to drop that argument now.

And the whole 19 more saves in 2 more innings still makes 0 sense, I don't care about the cirumstances. If a player has fewer save opportunities, then he is more than likely going to have fewer saves. IP has nothing to do with # saves. Foulke, as far as pitching stats (ERA, WHIP, etc.) has been more solid than Mariano this year, granted in fewer save chances.

Meh, if you want to call that "getting to", go ahead. He gave up a single run that game. How much that game means is debatable.

Pedro can still pitch, just not the Yankees. Their best shot comes if they were to win the east and NOT have to play the yankee's in the first round, and they get knocked out early.
They won't play the yankees first round anyway. Same division.

Not to countinue this ridiculous argument, but I have no idea how you can say that about a game vs. the Yankees.

amazing series this weekend. I went to the game on friday and it was perhaps one of the better games i went to, except for the 1999 pedro in Yankee stadium 18 K 2 hit performance. But that's beside the point. Point is I dislike the yankees but I respect what the players and steinbrenner does. I have been a red sox fan since i was little, i grew up in new england. But i dont chant yankees suck, its quite distasteful and really stupid IMO. It will be a great playoffs and I hope its another NY Red sox ALCS. THE BEST POSTSEASON MATCHUP ANYWHERE ANYTIME. Good luck yankees and i will be praying my red sox win like every year! hehe

Once again Speed you were worshipping this guy only 2 months ago and now your bashing him. Boston Fans will always be Boston fans. Just look at the turncoat flip flopper John Kerry. Bush sucks.
Worshipping who, Nomar? Nomar was an icon in Boston, but never came through against Rivera. Cabrera just did. Again, where are all the idiots who said getting Roberts/Cabera/Mientkavicz for Nomar was the stupidest trade ever? We will miss you Nomar, but we have someone who can fill your shoes.

Wow I am surprised you haven't posted anything yet Sp33Demon. I assume you followed the game very closely and you know exactly what happened. Please give us your take on today's 14-4 bashing.
I'm back, went to my alma mater to watch them pull out a fierce game against No.19 UMD in OT! I will send a postcard from either the Orange Bowl (playing for the national title), New Orleans, Pasadena, or AZ in a BCS Bowl come New Year's. :)

Back to the Sox, I saw the highlights on ESPN and most of what happened wasn't out of the ordinary on Sat/Sun, Lowe getting shelled as he has all year, and Pedro not pitching well w/out his fastball. I suspect that Pedro may be getting his annual physical wear (and the weather is getting colder), so it might do Francona some good to skip a start and give him some extra rest for this weekend's showdown. The blown save against Rivera was surprising, and I think that alot of his "invincible" aura has now worn off. Rivera is a better closer than Foulke, but you can't discredit the fact that Foulke is as good as advertised, especially since he hasn't blown a save vs NY this year and Rivera has blown two. His overall numbers are close (if not better) than Rivera's this year, so I don't think anyone will argue that he's a bad closer.

At this point and time it would be nice for Boston to overtake NY just for bragging rights, and the whittling away of a 10.5 game lead down to a 2.5 earned the Red Sox alot of respect. The fact that NY has never blown a 6.5 game lead ever, and Boston cut it by 8 in 5 weeks is phenomenal. But from a practical perspective, it would be much better to see Boston vs the A's since they match up better in a 5 game series (and they have killed Oakland pitching this year), and nobody wants to face the Twins at the rate they are winning (Santana just won his 19th). So if Boston can pull out the division for bragging rights, that's great, but the easier path to the World Series would be through bumbling Oakland to play for the ALCS. Then it would be better to play a 7 Game series vs Minny than a 5 game, because Minny only has a good 1-2 punch whereas Boston has a deeper starting rotation and better offense. Also, the odds are very good that Minny would knock out NY in a short series...

I have to praise you on having some class on this post :p ;)
You are usually "REDSOX NATION PWNS YOU~!!!!, YANKEES SUCK~!!!, BOSTON PWNS YANKEES etc..."
As far as Minnesota is concerned, they do play well during the regular season, but in the playoffs and such they don't play as well. They are dominant right now but I don't think they're anything to worry about.

Lol, well Red Sox Nation is stronger than ever, I was right with that one (sellout for entire season). :)

I'm kinda content at the moment because Boston beat Rivera, and WVU beat Maryland. Don't really have much energy left after that game, clubbing and drinking for my bday, catching a small cold, and 4 hour car rides ;)

I wouldn't really give either team the advantage at the moment, because both had good and bad showings over the weekend: Manny's defensive emergence, Arroyo's sparkling outing, Cabrera with a crucial hit to help beat Rivera. For NY, it was coming back to win a must win game after Friday night, and then beating Pedro (FWIW) and getting the bats hot at the right time. Downsides for Boston: D.Lowe will probably not be a starter for the playoffs, and come in middle relief if they have to face NY. Obviously Pedro will need to be sharper on his fastball as well. NY: Obviously Rivera blowing a save and taking an L is a concern, he was so worried about Roberts on 2nd he lost his focus (which allegedly he is notorious for). Giambi hitting nil. Still not having a number 1 pitcher, but a couple of decent ones who pull Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hides alot (Mussina is a good example of this).

I think NY could very easily get beat in a short series vs Minny. They got thumped last time vs Santana and scored one run in 8 IP against him (lost 8-1). Santana just struck out 14 vs the O's offense, who lit up NY pitching. But don't take it from me: "With a guy like him, there is no plan," Tejada said. "You just try to touch the ball. He can get you out on any pitch." Not to mention Santana's 30 scoreless inning streak... You're also forgetting that Radke beat Vazquez when Minny took 2 of 3 from them on Aug 17th: "Koskie drove in three runs, Brad Radke pitched seven solid innings and the Twins beat the New York Yankees in the regular season for the first time since 2001, an 8-2 victory Tuesday night." He only gave up 1 ER, and his 3.51 ERA is probably better than everyone on the Yankees' staff except El Duque (who doesn't have enough starts to be among league leaders). Furthermore, Radke's 4th in WHIP (and 5th in ERA) in the league... Good luck to anyone facing those 2 in a 5 game series.

Manny's defensive emergence,
AHAHAHA! I love the way he played a simple basehit into a double yesterday.

Actually, it is not the slightest concern at all. The guy is a human being afterall, he is entitled to a bad outing a few times a decade. It's not like he was hit hard, it was a walk, a hit batsman, a bloop and a soft single. I'm not the slightest bit concerned about him. He obviously did not have his best stuff that night, he walked the leadoff man which NEVER happens.
he was so worried about Roberts on 2nd he lost his focus (which allegedly he is notorious for).
Notorious for losing focus? WTF are you talking about?!
Giambi hitting nil.
Nobody cares about Giambi. We haven't needed him until now.
Still not having a number 1 pitcher, but a couple of decent ones who pull Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hides alot (Mussina is a good example of this).
Mussina was injured, now he's not. Have you seen his last few starts? Have you seen Lieber's last few starts? Have you seen El Duque's last few starts? Jekyll & Hyde? I don't think so. Sure, we don't have a top-flight pitching staff, but it's definitely coming together somewhat over the last few weeks.

Yankees have (yawn) already clinched a playoff berth - that's yawn because it's not a surprise. So, I hope that the Sox can do well enough to make it to the post-season so that we can watch THOSE games too.

Gonna be a fun weekend :beer::beer::beer: .
