Call me a dummy...

What the heck are the "credits" and whatnot. I wanted to get the full version of geometry wars but apparently it costs some weird intarweb currency that I don't understand.

I know, dumb spidey, but I honestly don't know and can't find out what the deal is.

As an aside the GF picked up burnout revenge today for me. man she rocks.

I think that most things on Live end up costing about $5. I haven't bought anything personally but it seems I did the math once and that's what I came up with. You can buy credits at Best Buy or directly through the Marketplace. I'd link you to Best Buy's listing but their site seems to be down at the moment.

screw that. Thanks a bunch for the link though.
Yeah, heaven forbid that all games aren't free!!! 😉

Btw... Five bucks for Geometry Wars is a friggin' bargain.
Interesting question... If you had seen it in the store for $4.99, would you consider buying it?

Can't...wait...for...graw....

Hey what's everyones HD setup? Looking to get a new HD plasma, wondering what everyone has (And who plays a lot of 360, that's what it would be used for mostly.)

Played a little bit of GR:AW tonight. Like said before, the contrls are a little different, but you get used to them. I'm not sure if it is a "must have" though. I was impressed, but I'm still thinking about Oblivion. The one downside to GRAW is when you are up against a wall or something for cover, and then get shot at or soemthing, it takes awhile to get off that wall/object and run like a little b!tch away. That is my only complaint as of now, which after playing more could very well go away. Who knows. Overall, I'm not disappointed on where my 63 dollars went.

My setup... 51" Sony RP HDTV and bargain basement surround sound.

The thing that is going to worry me most about GRAW is playing it on a console versus the PC. I played all the previous Ghost Recon's on the PC. It's the type of game that is suited for the PC imo. But I couldn't pass up playing it on the HDTV. How are the controls?

Nice.
I'm thinking of getting This

I know it isnt the best, but at $1,500 or less, it's hard to pass up. My budget is about $2,500 though, not sure wat would be the best plasma for gaming.

thanks again.

Paying for something on my credit card for which I don't know the exchange rate bothers me severely. But if it is only 5 bucks then I'm all for it.

so these magical xbox live "credits" are like real money? Not something I earn through gameplay, but 'we will charge your account'?

Maybe it is the ferengi in me but I ain't buying something without knowing how much it costs. 5 bucks for the full version - sure i'm all over it.

Marketplace points, explained on Xbox.com and explained on Wikipedia.

You can purchase points through the dashboard, or from a local retailer... 500 points = $6.25 (which is 1.25 cents per point.)

Geometry Wars costs 400 points, which equals $5.

I hear that plasmas are very bad for gaming because they are prone to have burn in. Someone more educated in the technology could probably speak to it better than I.

You basically said it. If you get too addicted to one particular game, you risk getting the status bars burned in after a few hundred hours.

I use my 19" widescreen LCD TV (1400x900, 12ms), which doubles as a computer monitor. Works great. Only problem is that I'm going to run out of inputs soon, and have to buy a good switch.

Go to Gamestop or EB. They've got a 1600 point card for sale, right with their Live memberships. That should alleviate any "exchange rate" concerns.

Personally, I just gave my credit card over to them like a good drone. A touch unsafe, but rather more convienient. I've bought about five games off arcade, and I've been happy with all of them.

Yeah, Wingznut has pretty much summed it up.

Microsoft kinda convoluted things since you get Gamerpoints for doing certain tasks in games, but they (as of yet, and who knows if they ever will) don't translate into any actual currency. Would make sense for Microsoft to do that at some point though, for the Live Arcade. They'd rip you off like they do in real arcades, where it takes a ton of tickets to get anything, and they mostly have cheap crap.

i don't have access to my pics...

but i have a 50inch sony a10, harman kardon avr430, and ascend acoustics 5 speaker setup with a svs 25-31pci tuned to 22hz...

I picked up GR:AW and Burnout last night. I am really impressed with GR:AW and Burnout is basically a port. It has great graphics but nothing that will have you saying OH MY!

HOWEVER ...

I found myself playing Burnout last night a lot more than GR:AW. The sense of speed is amazing in the game, and playing online was such a blast! I'll give GR:AW more of a chance again today however, because that game is fvckin awesome too! I kept saying to myself, while playing burnout, "Oh I'm just gonna do one more race ..." and I did that for like an hour lol. Ended up getting off at 11:30pm last night.

My 360 just started locking up on every game that I put in it. 🙁 Looks like it will be a week or two before I get to try out GRAW, Burnout, and some of the others....

Hrm, I've had an ED plasma for 2.5 years and never got burn in. I'm thinking of getting my next one at Costco..... Lifetime return FTW!

I have the System Selector Pro for my switch. I think it has 8 or so inputs (component) and works great. I got it for 100 back in the day, I think you can find it for 60ish now

Anyways, I'm off to get graw! YEAH!

I probably need multiple switches, since it seems like having "just one" doing DVI, VGA, component, and s-video/composite is a good way to obsolete it un-necessarily ("uh-oh, I need a third component input!" or "I _DO_ need dual-link DVI!"). Not sure where I'd even look for this stuff, let alone finding it cheap (eBay?).

Speaking of TVs, the dream TV. I think they had one of these at CES this year, and I believe they said the sticker price was 100k lol.

I've got a 61in Sammy DLP, love it. Also considering putting one of these in the MB. Checked it out a couple of weeks ago, has great clarity and contrast from what I saw, and for 50in HD Plasma that price is hard to beat.
