It's all about making everyone do impulse buys. If everyone sees it sold out minutes after launch, everyone goes into an impulse buy mode b/c theyhave to get it they will miss out. So, yes, MS did purposely limit the supply. Look at all thhe people who spent over 1k on ebay for it. They spent that much at launch b/c they belive that MS limited teh supply. So, on impulse, they did everythign they could to buy a 360, and if that meant spending three times the amount, then so be it. This is how aggressive marketing works....If MS had such a tight supply, why would they even bother giving one away every 10 minutes?

Seriously, think this through. What does MS have to gain by limiting supplies on an Item that does not have a varying price? So what if places are charging way over MSRP, Microsoft doesn't see a cent of that! If you took the time to read forums you would see that most Gamestops had over 130 people signed up to buy systems. With them only receiving 10-20, what does Microsoft have to gain by Ebayers charging out the a$$?

On top of that, if Microsoft limitsthe system availability, then they don't sell as many games and accessories. In the end, they take a loss on the amount of units SOLD and the amount of accessories and games SOLD.

How does Supply and Demand work in their FAVOR in this instances. This is the prime time of year to sell merchandise! Parents are willing to spend loads of money. Why on earth would you make it hard to get your product!

The real problem here is the fact that the product does not have a varying sales price. It has a set price from any of the retail/online stores they sell to. So the whole jacking up price does not help them at all. That makes supply and demand pointless.

They could sell 600,000 units at $399 (while the vendor gets all the extra overage)...or they could sell over a million at $399. Do the actual math and you'd see that it's stupid to do otherwise.

Anyways, if anyone has actual proof...let us know. Otherwise it's just more BS. Sounds like an article the Inquirer needs to post!

1. By limiting supply....you put people in panic mode. They see it, they will buy it. No questions, no thoughts. That is what MS wanted. Since they sell out, people think the console is worth the hype.

2. Free adverstisements. The news showed how everyone was in line for an xbox 360. Lots of peopel on this board forgot all about the 360 launch. By putting this much media on it, you essentialy made a ocmmercial by not spending a dime.

3. Supply and demand is not a retailer to customer relationship only. It's not just, supply low, price high. It works from the supply to demand too. That is, by controlling supply, you create the demand. It just so happens that this created a demand on the non retialer market now, which is why the price is high. Just to let you know, any retailer could chrge a higher price, but it would be corperate suicide to do so.

4. It is not how many they sell at launch, but how many the sell total that matters. The peopel who pre order do want it. Lots of the people who got the system at launch just bought it for the sole purpose to resell. MS knows this for a fact. That's why they had more systems to launch than systems to fullfil preorders.

5. Why do you think MS released this system atleast 6 months earlier than any other? It's not b/c they wanted to be the first, but b/c they need to be the first. April is the time frame they expect to fullfill all preorders and demand. By that time, Sony and Ninentdo will create more speculation (possibly even give the actual specs) for the release. However, by that time, MS has already sold what they needed to sell and more than half the people who bought it cannot return it. MS knows that this console will not be able to even stand up to Sony's hype or even Nintendo for that matter.

I could kick myself now (my wife could kick me to)....I sold my three Xbox360s prior to release day for a $200 profit on each when I could have been making a $1000 profit per unit at least. :(

Well I just got back from Zero Hour last night. It was a great time out in Palmdale. I also realize how the 360 really has no killer app at all right now, and that a lot of the games have frame rate issues.

Honestly, IMO, after playing every single game on the 360 that is available (or atleast seeing the ones I didn't care for), I can say that the 360, IMO, isn't even worth the $400 just yet since it really doesn't have a "killer" game. The system is great, but as of now, IMO, the games aren't just that great yet. But again it's still at its childhood and I saw a demo of Gears of War by the Epid dude, and wow ... that game is going to be AMAZING!

And now I want to brag about 2 things ...

1.

Picture that I took at Zero Hour

2.

My ebay auction that went for a ridiculous amount :)

Theres so much misinformation in this post and not worth replying to.

"Lots of peopel on this board forgot all about the 360 launch." Right

"April is the time frame they expect to fullfill all preorders and demand" Show me where MS said they expect to fullfill all preorders by APRIL?

FYI MS has said they expect to sell 3.5 Million Units in the first THREE months, well before April.

The demand for the product is already there. You're acting like this is some stylish shirt that is selling out. People aren't going to just drop $400 + on a console just because its selling out. It's a limited market and age group who really play this console. By limiting the supply, they are only decreasing revenue.

"That's why they had more systems to launch than systems to fullfil preorders." That doesnt even make sense.

I could go on and on. I'd rather hold a conversation with Spidey07 at this point.

Anyways..lets just drop it. We'll agree to have different view points.

There are lots of people who did not even realize the 360 was being luanched. Lots thought the lines were crazy people for Black Friday.

If MS said they wil sell 3.5 million console well before April, then all I can say is "exactly". So they will get everything out by Feb....they have fullfilled everyone's demand before Sony has a word in it.

So you think people will not pay more than the retail value because it is selling out? What do you think is happening on Ebay? You just went against the theory of Supply and demand.

They are in no way decreasing the revenue, because in the end they will still sell the 3.5 million.

Sigh. Way to manipulate the truth and totally take what I said out of context. You're not worth my time.

Are you serious? Sorry i'm not an obsessed fanboy that reads all these gamer magazines or runs around looking at all the latest websites watching the countdown and getting the latest news. I have a life, but that does NOT mean I don't know anything about the SYSTEM. I could not care less about two nameless guys who work for Microsoft.

They are far from nameless. I don't read gamer magazines, but I do look at websites. Most people who are interested in the 360 would have known who those 2 guys are btw.

Oh yea, and I'm not an obsessed fanboy, and I have a life as well.

Take a low blow? You insinuated that I didn't know anything about the Xbox cause I didn't know a bald guy and his homosexual gametastic sidekick? LOL

Hi Kettle, Meet Pot

Honestly, I care about the games, not about the people who make it. I spend my time with my family or at work, i don't take the time to review the latest news from the xbox creators! This is for my son and I.

It looks like the hype for the 360's on ebay went down drastically overnight. Instead of selling for $1000+ for the Prenium, they're down to about $600-$700. Sucks for those who bought into the hype just 24 hours ago.

I'm such a loser that I only played games for a total of 60 minutes there probably in a total when I was there for about 24 hours total, wow such a loser!

You have a link to the specs of your PC in your signature, and you are calling me a loser.

some of you all are pathetic lol.

They are far from nameless. I don't read gamer magazines, but I do look at websites. Most people who are interested in the 360 would have known who those 2 guys are btw.

Oh yea, and I'm not an obsessed fanboy, and I have a life as well.

Way to try and take a low blow at , thats really cool of you to do so ...

i believe the term society has reserved for people like you is 'loser'

LOL yea I'm such a loser because I took a pic with the 2 head guys behind the XBox360.
I am such a loser because I went to zero hour on an all paid for trip, man oh man, such a loser!
I'm such a loser that I only played games for a total of 60 minutes there probably in a total when I was there for about 24 hours total, wow such a loser!

You have a link to the specs of your PC in your signature, and you are calling me a loser.

some of you all are pathetic lol.

 this is a computer site and i got help for building my computer here.

no, but what makes you a huge tool and loser is not only did you do all that stuff, but then instead of playing the games like a normal person, you came here and posted about your pictures.

Did that bidder pay you yet? Because looking at his feedback, he purchased another 360 for $600 cheaper.

Man, you really are a freaking tool.

Listen jacka$$, you sit there and try to say I know nothing about the xbox 360 because I simply don't know who two developers are. What sort of self absored egotistical headtrip are you on. You trashed me first and then I retort, but all the sudden I'm the bad guy? My post was asking who they were because I didn't know.

"omg you are stupid and not worth my time" Grow up Tool. If you can't take sh1t back for what you dish out, you need to become a man.

Atleast we know who wears the dress in this thread.

I'm on your side, because I obviously don't read the thread!!!!
