Square Enix working on MMORPG for 360 and Vista.

In an interview with Pro-G, Hiromichi Tanaka has confirmed that Square-Enix is working on a next-generation massively multiplayer online role-playing game for the Xbox 360 and Windows Vista. Tanaka is the Senior Vice President of Software Development at Square Enix and he was the lead developer of Final Fantasy XI. He's currently working on the Nintendo DS version of Final Fantasy III.

"I'm still working on XI as it's on-going" Tanaka told Pro-G. "We are also working on a next-generation MMORPG for 360 and Vista but PS3 is a possibility."

Last month, Square-Enix announced it has licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 technology. Hopefully, this new MMORPG the company is working on will be powered by Epic's technology and offer Xbox Live Anywhere functionality for Xbox 360 and Windows Vista users.

This kind of thing is real nice to see. Even though personally I'm not into SE type of games it's just one more point of diversification with the 360. I give props to Capcom this gen in bringing two major hits to the 360 early in the game. Hopefully we can see more of this type of thing to come from developers over seas.

IGN previews Pelican Air Flo

February 7, 2007 - The market for cooling solutions for the Xbox 360 is getting a little crowded a year after the console's launch. Nyko was early on the scene with the company's Intercooler 360 (review), which has since been followed by many competitors. Pelican is expanding on the theme with a new product scheduled for a late Q1 launch, the Air Flo Cooler.

The device adds two USB-powered cooling fans to the 360 to add a degree of security for owners dreading the common 'Red Eye of Death' and actually goes further to add some unique spice of its own. As the picture shows, the Air Flo also sports connections for the 360's diverse output options, including composite, s-video, component, and VGA, as well as a 4-port USB hub, Ethernet jack, and optical and RCA audio. The concept may prove a useful alternative to the array of individual dongle cables for each video connection that are currently available, especially for players that travel with a 360 and require compatibility with as many TVs as possible.

The Air Flo cooler will carry an MSRP of $29.99.

Ok wtf do you do in this Def Jam demo? I don't get the point of the turntable...everytime I tried doing it TI kicked me in my fvcking face. Punch, punch, hard 360. Cool soundtrack, but I don't see how anyone would spend $60 on this thing.

Fusion Frenzy 2 demo was pretty cool though, I liked the first one.

Do the turntable move when you knock your opponent down next to something like a gas pump..etc. I could see the game getting really repetitive as the basic fighting is kinda poor. You could just do a simple combo all the time like, PUNCH...KICK..GRAB..THROW AT GAS PUMP... WIKI WIKI WIKI (turntable).. POW..GAS PUMP EXPLODES. meh..its kinda stupid but its different.

Sadly, Casino in R6:V is the new de_dust from Counterstrike. :(

That's funny... I picked this game up last week and played MP the other night and only played Casino once...maybe I just need to play some more...but it didn't seem the like "it" level.

Exactly. I guess my beef was with the piss poor excuse for a fighting system. It was terrible. But I guess as the demo said, you have to "learn the beats to win". I digress. :(

My roomie played last night for 6 hours. Guess what the only level that was played was? (3 hours of him hosting, 3 playing on other host) Yep, Casino. He asked why I didn't play, even though he knows how I feel about it. If you play a lot of Attack/Defend you'll get that map. If you play other gametypes (mainly Retrieval, Sharpshooter, Survival) you won't really play Casino that much.

I finally opened up and played Rainbow Six: Vegas last night with two coworkers over XBL. Great gameplay, but both of my coworkers couldn't hear each other (they could both hear me fine, though).

Oddly it added a fun little command structure to our gameplay as I relayed positions and generally gave orders to keep us moving in sync, but it's something I'd like to resolve if possible. I know that Penny Arcade blasted the game for this problem earlier and that a patch went in to alleviate it some; anyone know of a fix?

That has to do with how your 360 handles the NAT translation. bucwyle (Chrisg22) and I can't hear each other because the NAT at my current house is "Strict". (Have them go into their XBox 360 console settings, check the Network section and run a self test. NAT should be "Open" for everyone to be able to hear/talk to each other.

Have any of you found it difficult to get a good connection with an optical cable to the 360 input? This cable works great on every other device but refuses to 'pop in' snug in the 360. I can get it to connect and it will stay if I don't move the 360 but it's a pain to get it back in otherwise.

I know I can get another cable but just wondering if others have had similar issues.

Just got the XBOX 360 PC receiver in the mail today. It's the device that allows you to use your wireless 360 controllers on your computer.

Software install went fine once I downloaded the update. The CD included version 1.0 of the software, however I was told my computer didn't meet the requirements. I'm pretty sure that it's because I was running Vista, becuase it provided a link to go online and look for software that did meet the requirements. I choose the device in their list of menus, and choose Vista 32-bit, and it downloaded version 1.1 of the software.

I installed it without a hitch, plugged in the receiver without a hitch, and connected one of my wireless controllers without a hitch. Also, you can press the center guide button to pop up the battery meter for the controller as long as you aren't in a full-screen game.

Here's what it looks like.....

Very nice, now we'll see how it does in games.

Nope. I took the optical cable off of my original Xbox and plugged it into my 360 no problem.

Like someone else here said (purbeast I think?), we must remember that the dev 360 boxes are black, so this could be a huge misunderstanding.

The one I bought to use with my 360 had a loose connection but I just swapped it out with the one coming out of my cable box and that one fit just right.

That achievement/Old Spice rewards program is supposed to start today. I don't see any registration page yet. I assume you have to sign up for it first ..guess we have to wait a bit until the site is updated. I have a funny feeling that MS will use games that are not out yet like Crackdown, Virtua Tennis 3 and other coming soon games.
