Something I noticed about my Jasper:

The DVD Drive's front is made in the same white plastic as the rest of the console, instead of metal as in other 360s. Perhaps that's another way to tell Jaspers from Falcons without opening them up?

And how would I see that without opening?

JoPopsy i forgot to ask you can u tell us what pictures are on the back of your box or can you take a pic of the back of your box. just want to know if the Pro box looks different on the back because i heard the back of the Jasper Arcades have different pictures with Banjo Kazooi

Without opening up the Xbox console itself, I mean, not the box it comes in. Sorry about the confusion =/

Hi there,

I've been following the hunt for some time now. I'm trying to get the Pro console through ebay using msn cashback (now at 30% off), and I've narrowed down my seller to buy.com. Here's what I've gathered by asking previous purchasers of the Pro console from buy.com:

Item: Pro holiday bundle
Time of sale: 11/09/2008
Manufacture date: 09/09/2008

Item: Pro holiday bundle
Time of sale: 11/20/2008
Manufacture date: 10/10/2008 (comparing this date with the one above, hints that buy.com is getting rid of stock fast)

At this time, buy.com stopped offering the Pro holiday bundle, and are now selling a normal box Pro console. Could these be jaspers?! The name of purchasers are yet to be identified (they're protected until they themselves post feedback), so I'll report back when I have updates.

Been tracking this thread for quite a while now (and the blog post from before), and the wait for Jasper (for me at least) is now over 🙂. Just thought I'd chime in with info from my purchase.

360 Arcade holiday bundle (Sega Superstar Tennis included)
Purchased: 10pm 12-1-08
Location: Fry's Electronics, Las Vegas, NV
Team: FDOU
Lot: 842x
Last 5 serial #: 84205
Manufactured: 10-13-08
12.1 amps
New jasper style power outlet (2 section top bar)
175W power supply
Built in 256MB MU
XBOX 360 ARCADE SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E (on sticker on outside of box, yes, there is a sticker for the serial/manufacture info on the box)
Back of box has Lego Batman across top, Banjo Kazooie & Madagascar on bottom

No Kill-a-watt readings as I don't have one and am confident enough in all this new info that this is indeed a jasper.

Compared to my launch console (never did RROD 🙂 ), this thing is dead silent & cool. Disk drive is loud, but I have the 120GB drive to install games onto, so not a problem, and even with the drive running, its still quieter than the jet engine that was the launch console.

Fry's has a bunch more Arcade jaspers. Pros where 840x 14.2 amps, Elites 843x 14.2 amps so wasn't sure on the jasper status on those.

Sorry every arcade has a white DVD front, only Pro's and Elites has one out of metal.

I just ordered a 360 online.

Is there something I should check, or be aware of before keeping or setting up the system?

No difference. Its the picture with Fable II on it.

Hmm, I was looking at Moddages pictures again on Xbox Scene, and Ive noticed that when he took off the heatsinks that the CPU and GPU die doesnt seem to be using a a massive amount of Silver Paste anymore, rather it looks like they are now using those heat transfer pads instead...

Does anyone else think so?
Think last time i read that while those pads work, obviously Arctic Silver or something of the sort would work better when applied correctly.

Think when i get my Jasper i may replace that to further prolong the life of the jasper and to keep the even cooler.

I don't know ... MS has lost a LOT of money on this RRoD problem. Jasper is the 4th (technically) mobo out for the 360. I would hope they have it figured out now. I can honestly say that after playing COD4 for 4 hours last night, the air coming out the back of this rig is lukewarm at BEST. And the fans were still spinning on low. If fan speed and temperature are any indication of heat and reliability, MS may have made major strides in system reliability.

(shows 8 degrees difference between arctic silver and pad)

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum..._tech_docs%2F26951.pdf

In my experience grease gets better results, but AMD seems to think a pad is better in some cases (specifically when no heat spreader is present). But I don't think the chip overheating will be a problem at 65nm, it probably is so much cooler that a thermal pad easily does the job. A good thermal pad designed for the system probably gets pretty good results, so it's quite likely that 2-3 degrees difference might be all you would see. And it probably is easier and cheaper to not use it. If you are still worried about your Jasper I guess you could apply thermal paste, but just make sure it's a thin layer.

I wouldn't worry about it. MS has had three years to nail down this RRoD problem. If their engineers think that the pad vs paste (and I cannot see a pad costing less, although pad or paste would be a couple cents anyway) is the best thing to do, I'd leave it there.

Cost of materials, no, but applying a sticker vs. a paste may be quite a bit simpler from an assembly line perspective. Don't know.

Has anybody heard of anyone using Coollaboratory Liquid MetalPad on the XBOX 360's?

They claim that these are suited for consoles now and finally safe for aluminum heatsinks. I remember reading that the original, mercury-like TIM, didn't play very nice with aluminum.

Once I get my hands on a Jasper, I may go this route as I've seen pics of people installing on a PS3.

should have posted a link...huh?? Here ya go.

Do I have a Jasper? I presume so. Manufacturing date is 10/16/2008, it's an arcade I Just got from Walmart. The powersupply is a 175W supply, not 150W. However, on the back of the Xbox, it says it needs 12V, 12.1A. In regard to connector, it looks like the Jasper one at the start of the thread, but is somewhat hard to tell, as that is a drawing and not a pic.

Its a jasper.....you just have PSU of a falcon.....be happy, I live in the UK and no jaspers of yet!........

I will wait...time is on my side !

Cool--btw, I'm only on P3 of this thread, but people are talking about 84305 as the sweet spot and this one is 84205--so it's fully a week earlier than their sweet spot. It does have the double-tongue plastic bits on the Xbox's female power connector, pursuant to the diagram in the first post of this thread.

EDIT: it has, on the box, that 2008 E bundle verbage, too. BTW, nobody has seen Jasper written on a mobo through vents; the vents are way, way too close and I just was looking around with a flashlight.

I also see that there is falcon/jasper overlap between 842 and 843, so I obviously got a jasper 842. The thing does run hella cool, but I have nothing to compare it to.

I can see the Jasper sticker on my mobo through the fan vents, It is not easy but I can see it. Just have to find the right angle. The wording I can see is Jasper 1 weeks run S2 and some other numbers i can't make out following the S2

I think I have a Jasper.. I bought it at Walmart in Orange CA.

Arcade with the built in 256MB memory unit
12.1 A on the 360
150 Watt power supply with the "Jasper Plug"
Lot#0843X
10/19/2008 build date
Gold color capacitors

Does anyone think this is a JASPER???

OK, I believe you 🙂 I will try again...

I think I need to take off the case first--how do I do that? I don't want to snap things.
