<< Um, I fail to see the comparison between these and a reporter. His job may be important to some people, but it's not important to society. He put himself in harms way and he paid the price, it's tragic and sad, but nearly as tragic as the death of a police officer, firefighter or soldier though they also put themselves in harms way, it's is a neccassary part of a neccassary job.

My ass! Reporters are not important to society? Ever hear of watergate? The media keeps the government in check! They keep charities, businesses, individuals in check! For gods sake he might not have been a firefighter rushing into the WTC but he certainly was doing something vauable and important to our society. And comparing whos death is more tragic? What the fu**? Thats just trashy, and disrespectful to his widowed wife who is pregnant!. :|

whether or not his job was necessary is irrelevant. when somebody, who is there as an observer, not trying to harm or change them in any way, is brutally killed, it is generally not considered acceptable for your first words to be on the stupidity of that individual... and if that's what comes to your mind when you hear of this, i think you have issues.

Daniel Pearl actually turned down the chance to go into Afghanistan because his wife was pregnant. It's sad that these events had to happen. It really breaks my heart especially when you hear about children, or unborn children who will never see one of their parents again.

I just hope that Musharaff has enough power to turn his country around. These events sure aren't going to make his almost impossible task any easier.

Reporters do perform a function, whether it's neccasary or not is a matter of opinion. I am not saying it's not tragic this happened, I am saying he took a risk (unneccasary in my mind) and he paid the price, I would compare it more to a mountain climber trying for Everest and dying then a police officer or firefighter. If I decide to wonder the streets of East St Louis at 1 am doing a study on the night habits of fruit flys are you going to feel it's tragic when I get murdered.

Don't give me this crap about comparing which is more tragic, it's not like I am having the conversation with his wife.

Sorry, I guess I feel bad for anyone who gets murdered, regardless if they were taking a risk or not. Do all the "which is more tragic" comparisons you want, I still think its trashy.

According to the AP wire: "Those sources that are famililar with the tape indicate it leaves no doubt Pearl is dead. It shows him talking to someone as if in an interview, when an unknown assailant reaches across his throat with a knife. Only Pearl's face is ever shown, and the killers hand.
What a brutal, cowardly act.
Cold Blooded.
He will never know his daughter, watch her grow up. :(
No pit in Hell is deep enough for this group.

The fact is, no Muslim will ever take the side of a Non-Muslim against a "fellow brother Muslim". Some allies these Pakistanis are of the U.S., no? Or do you all still believe that the problem is related to "one or two radical elements"?

Very, very sad, but it should not be a surprise to anyone. I suspected this to be the case once the kidnappers stopped "using" him.
