Ugly game for the Sox..Wakefield was off and Manny was spaced out in the field. But it is nice to get a win despite all that.
If the sox can get schill/pedro to pitch like they can...looking good but don't want to jinx it.
Well luckily Manny canceled out his 2 errors with his 2 RBI
Manny had 3 hits, still has the second most hits of any Boston player this postseason. In defense of Manny the Great: (he deserves it, not excusing his errors)
1. jogging to 1st - He likely would have been thrown out at second no matter how he ran. In reality he has great baseball sense when not distracted by birds or shiny objects. During the play I thought Cabrera might have made it home if they tried Manny in a rundown.
2. kicked ball on ground - Okay, stupid play. Very stupid play. However he followed it up by grabbing the ball and throwing a rocket to home, where the runner was close to out. (may have tagged him, yet to see a good angle on the play showing one way)
3. golf divet - Cold night + hard slide = bad choice. He looked like a drunken clown but he simply got caught up. A bad judgement call, but many outfielders may have done the same. It certainly was closer to a hit than the idiot announcers acted.
If he makes up for it the rest of the series all would be forgiven. Boston won, so John Kruk and Tim McCarver should (please?)find an empty well to fall into, avoiding the annoyance of ignoring their constant second-guessing. These were the same announcers who blasted Bellhorn and insisted Varitek should start with Wakefield pitching. (showing they have no idea of Boston's team)
Larry Walker is impressive. The rest of the Cardinal lineup had better fallow his lead soon with Schilling and Pedro taking the next two starts. I honestly thought St. Louis would take game 1 unless Wakefield pitched perfectly. (he hasn't had a quality start down the stretch or in postseason) With the cold and extra rest the move of Pedro to game 3 is looking extremely smart right now.
? to Cardinal fans: What does the rest of the rotation look like? As an AL fan I know little about NL pitchers. Since the ESPN/FOX crews appear clueless about Boston I don't trust a thing they say about the Cards as well.
