We do, but it's the same reason FIFA doesn't have any sort of instant replay or allows officials to take back goals. It's "tradition."

Which is straight bullshit and IMO allows them to keep up corruption. I personally think a FIFA pushes refs to call the games certain ways and the refs in soccer are allowed WAY to much control over the game. More games I've seen are dictated by the refs than the actual players playing them.

Took an early lunch and ran to my parents to watch the 2nd half, so I still haven't seen the questionable offside calls. The late handball call was bad, as was the cheap garbage Algeria kept throwing and getting away with. Kudos to Dempsey for keeping his cool after getting decked, sure looked intentional.

Not sure why Algeria was content to play for the draw until 90', but at least they spent the majority of stoppage time arguing their way to a red card.

I like the whole stoppage time concept.

The only change I could see helping the game are retroactive reds and yellows (or just suspensions, and fines for in-league play) to combat diving and a hockey-style goal light.

... and the soccer thread has passed the NBA and NHL threads only two weeks in! Which sport is more popular, now?

i agree with those, for some reason i think on the club level in some country they can fine people

Well it's the world cup. Plus NHL and NBA are in the off-season. So don't get too carried away. NHL isn't very popular anyways 😛

Great game! The US really deserved to advance and it would be an incredible shame if they didn't get through because of two disallowed goals that were both legit.

Also the US goalie (Tim Howard?) deserves a lot of credit for making a great pass to setup that final goal.

Wow, that guy bitch slapped some reporter for no reason according to the article and witnesses?!?!? That dude should be locked up and never play again.

So U.S. fans, are we hoping for a Ghana win/tie and Serbia win? Would be great if Australia could take 2nd but not very likely. I've never liked the German team, especially since getting hosed in the 2002 semifinal against them.

If Germany wins, we avoid them in the next round, but your scenario isn't bad either.

germany up 1-0

if only serbia will score an own goal (australia has no hope of scoring on their own i bet)

to be fair, this is the WORLD cup and only happens once every 4 years.

the games are also played during work hours here in the US, where most people are tied to the computer, as opposed to evening hours where you're relaxing on the couch.

if the auzzies score 2 more and germany scores 1 more the auzzies go through

aussies only need 2 more goals, either them or german, while holding ghana and serbia scoreless to go through. aus would have goals scored as their tiebreaker

so much for aus

serbs almost had it there, very close offsides call

announcers are joking about the tennis match length
