actually its because the gap between supposed "top" country's has been closed drastically in the past 8 years. the playing field is nearly equal across the board

Agreed. Only one team has been blown out so far, everything else has been pretty damn close.

Not watching the game but just saw that Spain is losing... This World Cup is now officially a hoax, there is no way every single one of the top countries are playing horribly... With the exception of Germany I guess

I blame the vuvuzelas! The players are probably thinking like "Who cares about winning, I just wanna get the fuck out of here"

The top countries aren't playing horribly.

Spain - dominating this game, got caught on a counter.
Italy - same, managed to equalize.
Germany - won easily.
Brazil - gave up a junk time goal to NK, otherwise fine.
Netherlands - won. looked good doing it.
Argentina - didn't look awesome, but won.

Portugal, France, and England haven't looked great. Those also aren't top teams in this cup if we're talking the handful that can seriously compete to win.

Your top contenders this time are the Dutch and Germany, with Brazil, Spain and Italy one step behind. Spain and Italy might have a lot in common after this match, too.

It would be pretty cool to see the Dutch finally win a cup. I'll be rooting for them if/after the US and Italy are out.

Ugh, with all the attacking, they keep leaving themselves open on the back end. Scary stuff.

This is a hell of a match (unless Spain is your team). There's a great formula in play:

1. Powerhouse team dominating play
2. Powerhouse team down a goal on a counter

So you have the underdog on top, and continuing to get shelled by a superior team. This is probably the best kind of soccer to watch in terms of action.

It's been awesome, just extremely frustrating for me, though this trap the Swiss play is pretty damn annoying.

Ah, so Spain is your team? I'm sorry man, I won't hassle you about it. This was me two days ago watching Italy play Paraguay. It's so frustrating to see your team everywhere except in the net.

Totally. I also know I am going to get crap from my buddy who is a Germany fan. 🙁
